Caught speeding - 102mph in a 70

Will probably delete this thread - I was initially looking for some advice as to what people will imagine the outcome will be. It quickly turned into a condemning bunch of do good-ers that believe 100mph+ is a jail worthy sin committed by societies most disgusting creatures.

The fact that the OP says he didn't because he was so focused on the road proves that he shouldn't be travelling on the public highway at that speed because he doesn't have the experience or knowledge to do so, it's as simple as that. If you find that patronising then you clearly believe your a better driver than you actually are (most people's attitude to be fair).

That's the most arrogant and condescending comment I've heard all week. You don't know anything about me, the cars I've driven, the experiences I've had and the circumstances I've driven in. Without sounding up my own arse, my job involves driving some rather fancy vehicles, much faster than any Z4's, I've got thousands of miles of experience on the Autobahn - reaching speeds well in excess of 102mph. Don't twist my words, 'I was SO focused on the roads' - I knew I was going fast, I was looking ahead, I hadn't seen the police, why would I even bother looking at my speedo anyway? I knew I was speeding and I was looking where I was going. (I'm not even denying that I was travelling at that speed!?!) Honestly this forum has turned to a 'Holier than thou' exhibition. Christ...

Hi

When is your hearing due ? or are you still waiting for a date

as for the outcome pretty hard to say really, they may make a example of you or as a 1st offence my be a little more less harsh on you .. hard to say depends on the mood of the judge I suppose. Best thing is to be honest and your self and be genuine sorry, dont make up some poor story while you where speeding ... god we have all done it

best of luck let us know how you get on

Still waiting for my summons - will keep you informed if I'm still on the forum by the time it comes round - my Z is up for sale soon. Cheers

Magistrates courts are a lottery - in my opinion generally filled with very self opinionated, self righteous, full of their own importance people, who think they serve society !
Best of luck when or if you see the beak!

My brother was a magistrate for 15 years - Tried to persuade me down that route - as a retired prison governor not sure I would be seen as independent

So true - i actually got advised ''If you truly believe you're innocent, take it to the crown court where the punishments are potentially severe, but the trial is fair''

magistrages seem very much to be ***s :)

UPDATE: Court date was yesterday. Came out with 6 points and a £500 fine.

Can't complain really, I was on for a ban. I'm a 22 year old male from England caught in Wales and I represented myself without a lawyer. 6 Months after the original offence and I can finally get a proper nights sleep.

Not looking forward to renewing my insurance though! I think it may force a sale, but that's not until April and I have many more miles and smiles between now and then.

Lesson learnt, thankfully you got off with a reasonable outcome. Shop around you may be surprised at how little it will affect your premium.

BTW - Not sure if this is something you should notify current insurer of straight away? Could be worth checking policy wording as, god forbid, should you have an accident it could be a show stopper if they found out and they may not payout.

Yeah very true. And we'll have to see when it comes around I guess although I don't have high hopes! I keep seeing Chris Knott on here - is he still under the impression everyone that drives a BMW under 25 will end up in a close relationship with a tree? I'm a sensible driver now, honest... :D

Yeah I'm with Admiral so will have to check their policy on this.

I got caught for doing 102.8 and it went to court, I got 5 points and £360 fine.
This was a while ago and I had a clean licence so don't know how this will compare.

That's inflation for you!!

That's a good result.

You might be surprised about the insurance hike.

I got 2 SP30's one day after another (newly installed hidden camera) and I think my insurance went up about £100.

I was 23 at the time in a Golf GT-TDI.

Bet it feels great not to have that hanging over you any more. Sounds like a reasonable outcome, hopefully you can get back to enjoying your car :driving:

Honestly the last 6 months have been horrendous. Communication was non-existent for the first 5 months after offence and I was left extremely anxious as to what the outcome would be or whether they'd not bothered processing it. Just as I was beginning to think I'd got away with it the letter came.

I plead guilty early by post but the case was adjourned because they needed me to be present as they wanted to ban me. Luckily I've always had the 'gift of the gab' and I managed to talk some compromise into them. Could've been a lot worse. Huge weight off my shoulders now.

Great outcome...made up for you pal  :driving:

Pleased for you and am sure lessons have been learnt.

I actually don't think that what is in effect just a single speeding offence with 3 points will have much impact on future premiums. If you had some sort of suspended ban then for sure.

Good man

Not to bad an outcome as some drivers who get caught doing over 100 mph in N.Wales get fined 2k plus.
Where in Wales did you get caught.?

Great result that you didnt get a ban.
What is annoying is that there is no consistency in the justice system.
People do not know where they stand, like yourself worrying for 6 months whether you are losing your license.
If it was Scotland, you would have got an automatic ban.
