I've been scratching my head!! :driving:

You forgot something....the same bloke gave me a 997.1 GT3 as new brochure....that won him some brownie points!!

Oh and Sars - don't worry as soon as I have the pennies to get the one I want I will be there. Need to do some work on the house though for the next year or so. Then the coast is clear.... :driving:

All great points OG and I know you have your heart set on one.

When you get one I would love to have a look at it! Maybe take some pics of it :D

I think the GT3 is a better car no doubt, but specifically better in what it does. As an every day car the Turbo is hard to beat with everything it offers.

I think the Turbo has a bad reputation but if you are a current Carrera or S/4/4s owner without loosing all of the comfort of the 911 but want more power the turbo is a perfect car. Also for people that still want to keep the 4 seats as we use them occasionally. I think that a 997 turbo at 50k is still a great price and a bargain, spending an extra 10k and loosing the comfort isn't really something we thought worth it. The GT3 may be comfortable for the type of car it is, but comfortable isn't a word I would describe it compared to a standard 911. The GT2 also fits under the same category but even more lairy and hard to find.

One of the main reasons for turing down the GT3 was because my mum has developed arthritis in her knee and getting in and out of bucket seats is pretty much impossible. Also we found the GT3 to be very very hard, as hard as my Z4M with lowered springs, the 911 Cs is like riding on cushions compared to mine. Also he will use it as a daily as well as a weekend car if that makes sense so needs to keep the functionality, we have horrendous speed bumps round where we live, also all country roads, huge pot holes, lots of muck on the road from tractors (as a few from the sept z4 meet found out) etc so isn't really useable without the hydraulic lift and the 4WD is a huge plus because we get such bad weather having the 4WD is useful as they are renowned for being brilliant in poor conditions although lack ground clearance.

I wasn't saying the GT3 is a bad car but I was saying it is a hard core version and not for everyone. The turbo is the pinnacle of speed and comfort in the 911 brand hence why they sell so many. TBF your just as likely to loose your licence in a GT3 as in a Turbo, both want to go.

Depreciation again is a tough one to rationalise because what ever car you buy especially any high end sportscar you loose money and if your worried about it why buy one? The GT3 is in a different category in this respect but is in a class that barely any sports cars fill in terms of depreciation. Pretty much unheard of...

I also don't see why a Turbo couldn't be a weekend toy, like saying its pointless buying a Carrera as a weekend toy.. most people who buy Porsches do exactly that…

Which brings me to the last point. The Carrera variants are so good they are hard to beat and replace, lots on the market that are competitors but nothing like them to drive, the standard Carrera is still hailed as the best 911 you can buy for use in all the above, if you like a comfortable car you can use everyday or hoon at the weekend and occasionally take on the track. One of the reasons dad hasn't got rid of it, its hard to replace even within Porsches own line up.

The C2S sounds great, looks great and still goes like stink.

I also agree the C2s with the sports exhaust sounds amazing!!! Especially on a cold start! :D

Sorry for the hi-jack Carol :driving:

I purchased a GT3 some years ago now and I new the ride was hard before I ordered it and thought I could live with that, however I sold it after a few months just couldn't live with it any longer it just p*ssed me off the odd times I took it out, far harder ride than an E85 on run-flats :(

The Carrera has three positions of suspension etc...

Normal- quite comfy and a nice drive
Sport- hmm I can feel every bump and tiny piece of gravel but it's still OK
Sport Plus (also known as "Track" )- Basically a "WTF did I press that for ....Holy S*it Batman , hang on"

The differences are QUITE noticeable and in Normal its a very nice ride, still a sports ride but not unbearable...

I have a fused neck so the C2S was the obvious choice for me....
