Carol's new Porsche - A few more pics

Thank you Lee :D

Yellow is a bit marmite but the boxster yellow seems to be more acceptable than the zed's yellow.
It does suit the box though I think.

Nice, colour suits the Porsche more, wish they did a proper M type quick one, Z4M has to be one of the bargain sports cars out there, very little can get close and im am getting sorely tempted lol

The Boxster's not too shabby at 310 horses, 0-60 5.1 seconds!

Hey Carol, have you found the engine yet ? :D

It only takes a minute to get the covers off once you know how.....

Nice to have the engine rumble in the cabin… and people have the audacity to say they are too loud! WTF!!!

Funnily enough, by pure coincidence, I've had a passenger ride this morning in my mate's 981 Boxster S. It looks fantastic with the 20" Carrera S wheels, Bose, PCM, PDK, Sport Chrono etc. (cost him £55k new). The interior is really good quality, the navigation screen is great too. When I first got it in it I did have a bit of an 'ooohh shiny' moment - it looks so sleek and modern next to my little Z4MC! We had about 25 minutes in it, during which time he gave it the full beans a couple of times up to the 7.5k rev limit. The engine sounds smooth, purposeful, and it felt quite unusual for me anyway, to hear the engine right behind you. But....it didn't FEEL that quick. On paper I know it is probably slightly quicker than my car or virtually the same but is just didn't seem that quick. The engine makes a nice noise, but it lacks a bit of the aural drama of the S54.

So my verdict was, objectively, a better car in just about every way possible than the Z4MC (as one 7 years newer should be), but I wouldn't swap mine for it. It was just the wrong car for me personally. Fantastic car, just not for me. I''m looking for something more visceral, raw, unusual and that's why I will keep building up a pot for a GT3.

What is it you like about the GT3 compared to the Turbo? I was having a look  yesterday but they are about the same price with the Turbo being higher specced ..

Well pvr - First of all Turbos depreciate like a stone and GT3's hardly lose any value in comparison (especially RS versions). When I'm going to be spending circa £60k that is a very important first consideration. Then it comes down to what I want in the car. I want rarity, I want normally aspirated with a high-revving motorsport-derived engine that sounds fabulous (Metzger engine in the GT3 ticks those boxes), I want to use the next car on occasional track days without having to spend thousands modifying brakes etc., and I want it to steer, handle and perform superbly.

The problem I have with the turbo is lack of aural pleasure (engine sounds naff), relative ubiquity (much more common than GT3), there is not so much pleasure in just driving it - it is a bit of a one-trick pony (mash the throttle and disappear into the distance quickly). There isn't a lot else to get emotionally attached to it about. It's also 4WD which is of no interest to me either. For a car to use daily it is a fantastic piece of kit but it's not really what I want it for.

Good points. I am still talking from ignorance as I have not driven either (if I did, I might sign which I am trying to avoid ...).

Why do you think the Turbo depreciates so much compared to the GT3? I am looking for a weekend (but not track) toy, which is what would concern me with a GT3 that it has been ragged to death in 20k miles.
