But a good investment imo. Not the cheapest method for diagnostics and coding but certainly one of the easiest and convenient requiring only ur phone/tablet and a dongle....
Actually just buy it paul. I'm making an executive decision for you. That's easy isnt it? :P
It would be easy if I had a little more faith Chris, if I remember right you spend more time pushing yours than driving it :P :D
Haha u cheeky twonk. :violent1:
It runs and purrs like a kitten these days. Carly played a part in diagnosing and clearing some codes, as well as coding some little extras, effectively paying for itself.

Ive just ordered the dongle
Just ask via this thread or pm if u need help with the app paul or anyone else. It's pretty intuitive to set up and use tho...

(I'd like to code mine to raise and lower on the move Chris but you're not exactly local :( )

Standard E85 can't be coded for that, unless yours is modded. :(
Oh really? Well mine lowered no problem when backing into the garage of the seller of the hardtop i bought recently... Ergo, that must mean it's been coded succesfully, no?

You can start the roof moving while stopped or going really slow and once it's going it seems happy to carry on while moving a little faster. But if yours works at higher speeds than walking pace then I suspect something else has been modded.

Well I used my carly an my mates cars - cleared all faults and did some programming then went for an spirited drive - I forgot to tell them I also included the and add the speed monitor to happen at 70 mph - well I did  when we meet up at the pub.

Can anyone actually confirm whether you can code the roof to raise/lower whilst moving in an E85? This is a deal-breaker

Not til around next march when the hardtop comes off :D
It's there as a module coding option for the e85 and a thought i'd done it but tbh the only time ive tested it was when i backed it into a garage slowly which may have already been possible before the recoding....
Why dont u drop carly an email?

You very definitely can't lower the roof at anything north of 5mph; via carly, inpa, SSS or any other method. Gap-tech also doesn't provide this functionality so unless there is a wiring hack this functionality isn't available via standard methods.

I got the bluetooth one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Original-Carly-BMW-Bluetooth-Adapter/dp/B0187HPAOS

I also got a standard usb jobbie for coding (D-Can Switched Cable)
http://www.cable-shack.co.uk/products.php

I've read any old OBD cables can work, but because I was MHD coding too I just bought a cable that had 100% feedback

Anyone got an eBay link to see what the dongle looks like please ?

Can do one better mate.. I just happen to be sitting at the table that my dingle dongles are sitting on, along with my handy measuring calipers. Did you use a Jedi mind trick on me just then?? :D

These are mine. Both work with Carly although Carly claim full functionality with their own dongle which I'm suspicious about. Haven't tested this to clarify however.

The smaller ELM327 dongle was about a fiver from ebay and works fine with all the free apps as well as Carly (tested with diagnostics on carly but not coding).

The ELM327 is also handy for using with dashcommand while on the go to monitor live parameters etc. due to it's size - protrudes only 20mm once plugged in rather than the 50mm that the carly dongle protrudes. for lanky buggers like me that's significant.
You can do live parameters with both dongles with various apps but i'm not sure if the ELM dongle will work with carly live parameters as I havent had the requirement to test it yet. Would be more convenient than the carly dongle due to size, risk of knocking out of socket etc...

You can get a module from xcarstyle that lets you do this to 55kph (programmable 35/45/55kph), and works excellent (I've used this module for 6 years now)
http://www.dachmodule.de/verdeckmodule/bmw/bmw-z4-e85-cabrio-aio-modul.html
(you can get them cheaper in german ebay auctions)
They have 1 wire wired in the speedo cluster connector to get that speed link.
Mods4cars has a module that can do this up to 40kph.

My Carly turned up and I can't believe how easy it is to use. I have no idea what most of it means but it's easy to use :D

And somewhat idiot proof too pastry due to the backup it does before any recoding commences.
Idiot proof, pastry.  :D

That's a bit harsh Chris and I didn't even mention spending 20mins trying to Bluetooth pair it to my phone before I remembered it was meant to be Wifi connected.... harsh but fair :headbang:
