One day when I'm feeling like a bit of public ridicule, I'll post a track day video from the summer of me in my Westy showing what happens when R888s reach the limit of their dry mechanical grip and you don't clench your arse tightly enough :oops: :D

go on..... you know you want to..... im only running t1r's so they lose it a bit before :) but mostly its just as i get in after not driving for a while and drive like i do in the bm. the first slip slide (usually pulling out of my road) reminds me to use the throttle better... :D an lsd probably helps

yes i did mean the traction control, didnt know the M didnt have it the same as other Z's

So here it is... The first lap I'm short-shifting and not really pushing much, then I caught up with a Porsche behind a a slow moving BMW. I considered overtaking them both together but thought better of it. The left hander at the end of that short straight is around 100 degrees so heavy cars wash out wide leaving me to tuck underneath and pass before the next chicane. Ultimately, when I span, the loss of grip was induced by the nearside rear wheel touching the grass. Unfortunately, that was the wheel under most load at the time. I might have caught it had the offside rear not have then touched the grass on the other side of the track. It actually all started to go wrong on the previous corner (tight left) which I took too fast. That stopped me getting over far enough to take the correct line for the long lazy right on which I span. It's a shame the camera doesn't quite show my feet for a bit of heel-and-toe action :D

Good video, the speed of your arms when you nearly manage to correct it!!! That car looks like a huge amount of fun!

It's great fun and totally different on the track from the ///M. Such a contrast between brute force and nimble dexterity...
 
Yes I can only imagine, looks and sounds brilliant. When the weather is brighter, I tag along and grab a monthly drink with the Caterham club and I can see the attraction of these!

You can pick one up quite cheaply (Westfield not Caterham) and they're very inexpensive to maintain, insure, etc. I actially insure mine for only one day a year in order to have it MOT'ed (as a cheap safety check) and otherwise trailer it to track days. That means I don't pay road tax either :thumbsup:

Thanks. It is Abingdon - you can see how safe airfield track days are as there's plenty of run off and no camber changes. Motorsport-events.com run days there but it's off season now. I'm not sure about half days, you should check with them. I'll definitely let you know when I'm next going. I go to other tracks as well but none of the others are local for you. It would be good to see your Zed in all it's glory, especially with the LSD :thumbsup:
 
I'm no racing driver but that looks like shocking driving....one handed nearly everywhere and changing down mid corners :thumbsdown:
 
Please do I am really struggling for holidays this year! Witch sucks as I have car and myself ready for track days :-( but I defiantly want at least one at Abingdon! And it would be nice to have a friendly face there. I have been round it a few times as a passenger. And was of the same opinion nice and safe. Bloody cold in the winter!!

There was one down shift whilst cornering (at 2:55). The available torque at that speed in second gear is greater than in third so down shifting helped to bring the rear round. That corner is a more than ninety degree left and hard to get right. You can see on the subsequent lap that the Porsche washed out wide and I was able to tuck underneath it.
As for driving one handed, the steering rack is very fast and the wheel tiny, so the car is readily controlled in the more open bends with one hand. You'll notice I'm using two hands for the tighter corners. Also, you've probably forgotten that manual cars require one hand to leave the wheel when changing gear and demand more of their driver than simply planting the right foot and going to sleep :P
