Just done my dash strip with the carbon film. Looks good :) .

Just wondering if im brave enough to get the center console out now :D

Srhutch, do you have the rest of the pictures to that italian guide? Just looking at it and im not sure of a few things, does the gear shift need to come of?

If anybody wants these send me a PM with your email address and I will forward them with pleasure.

I ordered mine last Wednesday from carbonfibrewrap... no delivery yet. How long has it taken other people to get theirs?

Thanks

Dave

Emailed and they are sending mine out today I hope... so should get it tomorrow.

I have a few things I have decided to wrap, so I'll have to see how they look and post pics. Doing things a bit differently to others... :)

Got mine from the depot this morning.

End of tube was a bit damaged, so one end of the roll is a bit iffy, bit annoying but hey ho.

Nice stuff to use, but to do nicely it takes ages, and tight corners are a bugger, lots of cutting and re-forming and taking out wedges to get nice curves etc.

Here are my door handles. Now, one thing to look out for. The part is diagonal vs the 'grid' of the fabric, which made the visible line that reflects normally on the passenger handle have horizontal lines. I copied that for the drivers side, but interestingly, I think, the fabric would need to be at 90deg, because my drivers handle has the lines going down.

So just watch out for that. If you are doing something that you mirror I *think* you need to rotate the fabric 90deg... since my sheet of stuff was the cut-out on the sheet so "should" have worked ok :)

Have some spare handles in almost mint nick, so covered up these tatty ones. Quite like it actually, feel very nice in hand and with good corners you really can't tell that it's a fabric overlay!

looks good the door handles are a nice easy job to start with and gets you used to handeling the matereal

got my wrap last week, just done the dash tonight, wasnt too bad actually. top tip i can give is dont use a hair dryer, i held the bit i wanted to heat near a halogen spot light we have in the kitchen for 3 -4 seconds. it heats the exact area you want rather than big sections so easy to pull / stretch tight. ill be doing the door pulls this weekend and then center console, maybe a few more bits after that depending on what i have left

beware the clip at the passenger side holding the dash piece in, mine wouldnt budge so have to take the glove box out. in the end i pushed it out from the bottom with a pair of plyers, think ill cable tie that in rather than using the clip again!

TBH I dont think a cable tie will be good enough as the clip also acts as a wedge. With the cable tie I think the panel might not sit flush, an also will be harder to remove next time. I removed my clip by going through the air vent.

ill see how i go, re fitted the panel to see how it looked and it seems tight, if i need to wedge it im sure i can find something as good but easier to remove if required. cant see how i could remove the clip without removing the glove box again, that bugger was tough to remove, i had already removed the air vent but couldnt get enough purchase to shift it.

from memory you need to squeeze the clip rogether to remove, was a couple of years ago though so could easily be wrong

Yep you squeeze it together. Mine was an absolute WRESTLE to get out! :x

A bit of a warning to everyone about the wrap...Mine has now suffered from heat through the windows and in tight corners has 'webbed' if that makes sense to you all. Kinda like the skin from your thumb to your finger!
Im wondering wether to take it all out and start pulling it tight again or have the pieces sprayed now.
Im taking the car down south of france soon and the temperature will be pretty high so not sure how the wrap will cope. :(

Hi Dreamer, it looks amazing...

But i did think it may have some problems with heat....hope you get it sorted.

My advice would be to remove it? or maybe possibly laminate it in somesort of fashion?

Dreamer could you post a picture to show us what you mean about the webbing?

don't give up so easily Taz... a carbon dash would look sooooo good in your car, really would finish it off. I say go for it... I'm sure if we tried we could find a home for your piano dash ;)

unfortunate for you tweed i would keep my piano just in case i wanted to go back, sorry

Mr Gringo... Some pictures to explain my term of 'webbing'. I have now had a bodyshop quote me £80 to do a Piano black finish on them so very tempted to do that now. At least it wont 'web'

I kinda saw that happening on my door handles, so the 'underlap' is all trimmed right back so there is about 1-2mm tops of material, with lots of trims radially out along the curve to make sure it doesn't pull along the curves!

Easily resolved I think, but still a pain in the arse!

Piano black would be a nice finish by having a body shop prime/paint and lacquer... deffo needs a really good solid tough but slightly soft lacquer though (to prevent cracking)!

Dave

Im sure if i super glued or something inside the corners on the B side it would prevent this, but im just a bit put of now.

Its all about a glossy sprayed finish now or a proper leather trim 8)

Problem with those panels is they are the 'main' ones, and this tape is ultimately nice enough, but personally it's not quality enough to be better than the original brushed ally, a nice piano finish in black, or the cabon leather with stitching etc...

Thats why I have avoided those bits, and will do the naffer plastics instead. Ie, gear lever surround, tray under the gear stick etc. Improve the worst bits a bit, rather than change the best bits :D

Piano panels would look nice... just scratches! If you get it in good quality 2k lacquer though, and get about 10 coats, you can always use car polish to remove the scratches for the future of the car :)
