It was too much of a bargin to miss, and wasnt to far to collect, as the seller wouldnt post, maybe I can redeem myself with this. I will probably order soem fibre soon and have a little practice.

Looks OEM

Gee, Starscream... you've maintained your status as the King of useless mods  But everything is done up so tastefully!

Guilty as charged

This however was a request for a friend, He wanted me to try it and I figured what the hell, Ive never done anything like this before and I think it came out pretty good for my first attempt :D

Well if you do get hold of a full interior let me know what you would want for it covered. As long as the price is right I would go for it :D

Starscream-------------Great job! A couple of questions for you. Assuming your Z is the red pictured one, which wheels are those pictured? I've seen them before and wanted to ask someone. Secondly, where did you purchase the carbon fiber? I know carbon fiber is tough stuff, but if you don't clearcoat over it will it eventually start to fray or get "fuzzy" sections from things sliding across it? I really like the color of red and the wheels on your car. Also the carbon fiber covering you did looks great!

First and foremost, bang-up job! Looks fantastic!

I'm curious, however, about longevity of the adhesive, especially over years of interior heating/cooling with the sun, season, etc. I know that 3M/Super 77 is heavy duty, but still wonder if it will loosen over time.

Also, is the carbon fiber fabric resilient to water or other potentially worse spills or scuffs? Is it easy to clean and maintain? I suspect the carbon leather is hardier.

Any insights? :?

On a related note, has anyone actually had these dash pieces painted professionally (i.e. automotive paint and clear coat for durability). I have a dream red/black interior, and wonder what it would look like to have the trim panels either:

[A] painted to match the dream red, or... (after seeing your carbon mod)
wrapped in matching dream red leather.

EIther one might be too much, but I though it might be an interesting way to visually bridge the leather panels on the two doors.

Who here has actually attacked the project of removing the trim around the center console? (dash pieces are easy enough) From the Italian link I found here, removing the whole center console and rear storage box looks like a complex undertaking. I'm quite a manual person but not sure on this one...Any experience to share?

Yeah, that link make the center console look pretty intimidating. I have a friend who own a shop that specializes in maintaining and restoring classic European motorcars... I'm thinking of having him look at it to see what he thinks or might charge. FWIW, one of our two local dealerships said it would be about $500 +/- to do the swap.

A few like me have done this, CJ10jeeper I think for his Bluetooth retrofir, PVR and DHK, it's no that hard really, just takes a little time.

The wheels are the stock M wheels that came on my M Roadster,

Not sure about durability, I guess it should hold up, I don't think you can clear over this, It isn't carbon fiber, Its carbon fiber "look" fabric

The interior in my car is the genuine BMW factory Carbon Leather, and its strands of leather weaved to look like CF,
Thats under warranty :D

Removing the centre console is not hard at all. It's just a great big jigsaw puzzle that you need to figure out the logical order and as said take your time.

Starscream, hi, great job mate, well done, can i ask youn how much it will cost me to do that, and if i can send you my and do it for me how much it will be, thanks allot

Wow, that looks great.

I'd be tempted for the dash and transmission tunnel, and maybe the door handle brushed metal part...

Do we have any links to suppliers not on eBay?

Cheers

Dave

Ive had a few PM's about doing this for people,

If you can get your trim off and get it to me I'll wrap it,
Would take me a few days turnaround and prices would be low

Anyone have a link for a reputable place to buy this by the yard in the US? I found some sites by Google but there are so many variations I am confused on what exactly to buy.
