I despise paying it. With an M in the top band, and the bloody car is only used one day a week. I would much prefer it to be mileage based. It is really unfair on 'second car' drivers like me. But the attitude of many will be 'ah well if he can afford a second car like that then he can afford to pay £450 a year in tax'. Well I am sorry that is bollocks! The metric is CO2 emitted _per_kilometre_ and hence the basis for what I think is a justified rant.
The 118d costs £35 a year. With the tuning box fitted it is belching out more than it's rated 119g/km CO2 (and therefore into the next pricing band or two higher, theoretically) so I do feel a little better about things :evil:
Joking aside, one thing is that no matter what you do to the car the CO2 figure you pay tax on is the official figure. So, if you have a 3.0i / Si and want some more poke, before you p/x for an M consider putting an ESS supercharger on the car and pay the grand total of £0 extra in tax for it.
