just taxed the 3 today tax has gone up by 20 bloody quid! gordy kept that one quiet, thieving b..tard and weve still got dirt tracks to drive on, next year i suppose itll be £300 thatl teach me to work so hard, am thinking about changing my job, ajob dodger looks incresingly attractive and you dont need any qualifications, helps if youre illegal though they give you a car. i wonder who pays for the tax?

Someone told me recently, and not sure what their source was, that only about 10% of road tax revenue ever reaches it's true purpose - road maintenance and improvement. Sounds about right to me :thumbsdown:

I despise paying it. With an M in the top band, and the bloody car is only used one day a week. I would much prefer it to be mileage based. It is really unfair on 'second car' drivers like me. But the attitude of many will be 'ah well if he can afford a second car like that then he can afford to pay £450 a year in tax'. Well I am sorry that is bollocks! Not only have I worked hard for the treat in my garage (and paid tax along the way earning that money) the metric is CO2 emitted _per_kilometre_ and hence the basis for what I think is a justified rant.
The 118d costs £35 a year. With the tuning box fitted it is belching out more than it's rated 119g/km CO2 (and therefore into the next pricing band or two higher, theoretically) so I do feel a little better about things :evil:
Sorry about that. Anyway, joking aside, one thing is that no matter what you do to the car the CO2 figure you pay tax on is the official figure. So, if you have a 3.0i / Si and want some more poke, before you p/x for an M consider putting an ESS supercharger on the car and pay the grand total of £0 extra in tax for it.

why should we pay any more ie mileage based, in france there is 0 road tax and the diesel at least is considerably cheaper AND they have proper roads, we pay throught he nose already what we need is something back for it!
This is very similar to the avoidance in The Netherlands. There was a company that would buy 25 year old Mercedes G models as they are tax free. Then they would just replace the entire car on the existing chassis, and therefore could sell a new car as old, and the new owner would pay 0 road tax (remembering that car tax in NL is thousands a year).

This Co2 stuff is all a load of rubbish. The reason it's 'so high' is because of catalytic converters. When Thatcher was in charge, she said "We need to worry about GREENHOUSE GASSES, not Co2!", so catalytic converters came in... So if you want to reduce your Co2, you should be allowed an insurance DISCOUNT for fitting straight through pipes!
