just taxed the 3 today tax has gone up by 20 bloody quid! gordy kept that one quiet, thieving b..tard and weve still got dirt tracks to drive on, next year i suppose itll be £300 thatl teach me to work so hard, am thinking about changing my job, ajob dodger looks incresingly attractive and you dont need any qualifications, helps if youre illegal though they give you a car. i wonder who pays for the tax?

I renewed mine a few days ago do I still got the old rate (i.e. £20 less ...). All in the planning 8)

Wasn't aware it was this bad......

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/7542531/Road-tax-doubles-on-many-cars.html

Someone told me recently, and not sure what their source was, that only about 10% of road tax revenue ever reaches it's true purpose - road maintenance and improvement. Sounds about right to me

I couldnt afford a year in Dec (2 cars' insurance and tax and xmas...) so put six months on it...

so mine now runs out at the end of May - doh :headbang:

Always 6 months for me. Not giving them £400+ in one go for it to sit in my windscreen, they don't deserve it.

:soapbox:

I despise paying it. With an M in the top band, and the bloody car is only used one day a week. I would much prefer it to be mileage based. It is really unfair on 'second car' drivers like me. But the attitude of many will be 'ah well if he can afford a second car like that then he can afford to pay £450 a year in tax'. Well I am sorry that is bollocks! Not only have I worked hard for the treat in my garage (and paid tax along the way earning that money) the metric is CO2 emitted _per_kilometre_ and hence the basis for what I think is a justified rant.

The 118d costs £35 a year. With the tuning box fitted it is belching out more than it's rated 119g/km CO2 (and therefore into the next pricing band or two higher, theoretically) so I do feel a little better about things

Sorry about that. Anyway, joking aside, one thing is that no matter what you do to the car the CO2 figure you pay tax on is the official figure. So, if you have a 3.0i / Si and want some more poke, before you p/x for an M consider putting an ESS supercharger on the car and pay the grand total of £0 extra in tax for it.

So, in the style of the two Ronnies: it's six months from me, and it's six months from him (above) :D

why should we pay any more ie mileage based, in france there is 0 road tax and the diesel at least is considerably cheaper AND they have proper roads, we pay throught he nose already what we need is something back for it!

Wonder if that works if you buy one of the tax free Audi A3 models, then replace the engine with an S3 :D (ignoring the insurance hike of course ...)

Lets print these for Z4M owners :)

This is very similar to the avoidance in The Netherlands. There was a company that would buy 25 year old Mercedes G models as they are tax free. Then they would just replace the entire car on the existing chassis, and therefore could sell a new car as old, and the new owner would pay 0 road tax (remembering that car tax in NL is thousands a year).

We shouldnt pay anything at all. As you quite rightly infer, we already pay taxation on fuel which is proportional to the efficiency of our cars.

Yearly registration (closest equivalent thing) in Texas was $20 a year IIRC.

Whether you had a 5.7 V8 or a Focus. I will let you work out what my choice was :D

I think its now £245... The 118d has gone DOWN £5 :happyclap: (excuse sarcasm there wasn't a whooptifrickingdo smiley)

yes they have much better roads IMHO, but not fuel prices....average diesel/unleaded is upwards of 1.40 euros/litre. .e. MORE than we pay....and although I don't know what other taxes/costs are prohibitive, there are FAR FEWER premium or larger cars in evidence in France......drove my Zed down to Gascony again three weeks ago - 1800 mile round trip, and not a Porker or a new Beemer in evidence, except the odd one in gay Paree......

We need more CO2 ... the ice cap of the Arctic has never grown so fast as this year and the winter was friggin cold. Funny how you don't hear a lot about the climate change nutters now do you ...

Now £245 for the 3.0si? WTF!!!!!!! Surely not? I know it's only a £30 increase, but that still takes the mick!

This Co2 stuff is all a load of rubbish. The reason it's 'so high' is because of catalytic converters. When Thatcher was in charge, she said "We need to worry about GREENHOUSE GASSES, not Co2!", so catalytic converters came in... So if you want to reduce your Co2, you should be allowed an insurance DISCOUNT for fitting straight through pipes! ;)

It's still nearly 15% :(

Surely you read in the news all the 15% pay rises companies gave to their employees at the end of the year? :x
