Car jacking heads up. KEEP YOUR DOORS LOCKED

Ideally my dog would have eaten their ball ox and I would have given them a beating and family and car would be protected  Realistically, I would tell them where the keys were so they would stop trying to kill my dog and my family would be left alone. Car gone, wallet gone :( plenty of time then to phone the police, insurance, bank, hopefully not the vet and review my house security :|
Anybody wants to say its wimpish or whatever then I say. I hope I or you never have to find out whether it is or isn't.

Bravado seems a good idea. But sitting in A&E getting stitches allows time for reflection

Well i know for a fact if i was being burgled i wouldnt run downstairs...

After i got burgled, the slightest noise would wake me, and i would be paranoid and hear things downstairs.. In all cases i never went downstairs i just listened! Its great saying i would fight them, and i honestly thought i would... But now i know i am a coward

But i do have an assortment of weapons within easy reach under my bed... One of which is a nail studded baseball bat... Which the wife hates as she ones reached under the bed and cut herself with it!

Sadly Carol that's much more likely the outcome in these situations than the bullshit bravado approach proposed by some armchair warriors.

Uuum, the slightly worrying thing about that is if those same weapons there for your protection, then get turned on you by the intruder

No it doesn’t make you a coward at all

It would be interesting to know, what the guy in Luton’s Wife and Daughter think about it now he is lying in hospital in a serious condition, are they thinking he’s a coward, or a Daisy, because he didn’t turn into ‘Rambo’ or ‘Superman’ and wipe the floor with the burglars, it really isn’t that simple

Sitting in your armchair saying I’d do this and I’d do that and playing the big man isn’t the way it turns out in reality.

Absolutely CJ. There's a few armchair warriors about unfortunately.

Of course everyone is different, some will turn a blind eye and some will do something about it, I've always been the latter perhaps against my better judgement but I do what I think is right, if I got seriously hurt I would still be content in my mind I protected what is mine and did the right thing. Nothing to do with being an armchair warrior and might have known that would be thrown in at some point and such a stupid comment to make

Seems like we're stupid CJ.

Tim.

Its got absolutely nothing what-so-ever to do with ‘turning a blind eye’ or ‘some will do something about it' That makes it all sound really simple, 9 times out of 10 you don’t get the chance to make a rational decision like that, in a split second you could be on the floor with your head caved in or worse.

I certainly didn’t think for one minute, oh I’m going to turn a blind eye, I tried to defend myself and my property, and ended up seriously injured in hospital,

Tim.

Its not a stupid comment at all, the stupid comments are the ones that are made by would be ‘Rambo’s’ or the like, that make comments like “I wouldn’t be a Daisy or a coward I would fight to the end to defend my property and or family” :headbang:

If it ever happens to YOU maybe then you'll understand the difference between reality and the movies.

Come on Tim be honest with us, when did you last get a punch on the bugle or a good smack in the chops and how did you react?

You also have to remember that the folk who go around doing these crimes are probably hard nuts and may have been in Her Majesty's Hotels - They are very unlikely to be some naughty boys from the next estate!

Taking the pragmatic approach and handing over the keys is not a cowards way - Old flesh and bones don't heal so well!

We all get it, you don't like Carol M.
Just give it a rest.

CAROL, I'm not contributing any more to this thread as again with your antagonistic approach towards me I can see where this is going and it would be a pity if it was locked like the thread earlier in the week. I apologised to the OP and hope you did too. I'm surprised you haven't chipped into this thread earlier than you have.

Have I ever said I didn't like you? no I haven't. Your little tantrum and hot headed outburst said it all for me last week, you just can't help youself and obviously have a very large chip on your shoulder from things I've said in the past for which I apologised for but you don't seem to able to get past it. You know absolutely nothing about me Carol for you to have said what you said and IMHO very shallow of you when you form opinions of people who post on the internet and that have never met in person.

Tim.

Seeing the middle ground here, I take reasonable precautions to ensure that nothing of value is left out for the opportunists thief to steal. The vast majority of burglaries are by opportunity and not planed heists, quick and easy entry and exit. Leave your car keys in an obvious place, kitchen worktop etcetera and its easy pickings. And whilst insurance will cover any loss, said insurance company will try to recover that cost in later premiums.....so you will pay for it

On the other hand, if I heard strange noise downstairs, one would have to be absolutely insane to confront them, they have little to lose, I have EVERYTHING to lose, so I would be putting the wardrobe behind the bedroom with my daughter and I behind that and phoning the police

Agree totally Sars, you can replace stuff but you can't replace people and like you said they have nothing to lose while we have everything to lose.
My sons house recently got broken into in broad daylight through the front door. They would have been completely visible from the street. They seem to have no fear.

And Tim. I haven't antagonised you I think its the other way round by keep capitalising my name, telling me on two separate threads I am having a tantrum etc.
I am not inclined to tantrums I am too old for that.
'Chipping in' on forums is usually classed as 'contributing'.
You haven't apologised to me at any time btw and I have no idea what you mean by forming an opinion of you when I've never met you.

Anyway, back on topic.

I'm glad my doors auto lock when I pull off as I might forget to lock them. I have to lock the Freelander's doors manually. It's dodgy for women too as they can open your passenger door and grab your handbag if the doors are unlocked.
