I live in a Bungalow :)

Seriously yes I keep all my keys hidden away, you may as well put a sign on your front door saying "Come in Help Yourself"

Personally I would do anything to protect my family, house and contents, if someone entered the house its game on as far as I'm concerned, not to hide away like a frightened mouse in the wardrobe hoping they will go away  Its what I've worked for and I wouldn't let some low life walk off with it.

This happened to a shopowner close to me a few weeks back, what a heroine and good on her I say :)

Tim.

Sorry, but I think this is just bad advice. Do you really think it's sensible awoken from sleep to try to take on 2 or 3 adrenaline pumped yobs certainly carrying basic weapons, when you arouse from sleep probably half naked, barefoot, etc. Macho of course to say it.

While I agree about protecting one's stuff and family, there is a sensible line to draw. Death or serious injury vs. an insurance payout.

I put my effort into highly secure doors and windows on the house. If they get past that they are serious and can have the car.

Bad advice or not I would sure have a go, sorry I'm just not the type to roll over and play daisy, its the chance you take, just like the woman in the link I posted earlier, her adreneline was running too and it paid off for her and that was with a shotgun in her face.

Its a shame this country is turning into a "blind eye society" :|

Whats a basic weapon? a plastic fork :D

Tim.

I'm the same in a way as Tim, unless I had 3 blokes coming at me, if there were 2, I'd grab the baseball by the side of my bed and get downstairs with no hesitation at all.....

Has nothing to do with being worried about the car, more to do with someone attempting to break into my house....has nothing to do with what they are trying to take.

I'd put a couple of retractable posts outside my house to put someone off in the first place and work on the security on my house if I was that concerned about my car

Ashamed to say that I'm an act first think later kinda guy.....

remember burglars have rights too ! bollox they do if they enter my house ! I am with titan tim on this one . any household object i could lay my hands on would be used extensively and mercilessly. judges have been given guidance recently to throw out rediculous police and cps prosecutiions of law abiding homeowners who defend their homes family and belongings with force. i would go to court with my head held high and leave it to a sensible judge and jury.nothing worse imo than the liberal do gooder type brigade bleating on about peoples rights, lock them up with the carjackers !!! :headbang: :poke:

I think if someone was wanting to enter your house to nick your car keys the last thing they would want is to disturb the occupants, they just want to get their hands on the keys and be off with no grief, so me running at them naked with a plastic fork and screaming is probably something they don't want to be faced with

Unless you are some real tough nut - don't? Like the majority of people on here I would guess the last time you had a proper scrap you would have been at school!
You will probably loose the scrap and your car! :(

All of the ‘Bravado’ above cracks me up, it easy saying I’d do this and I’d do that, wait till it happens to you, I’ll admit I used to say the same, until I was robbed at gunpoint and given a severe beating with a baseball bat 10 years ago now. In Birmingham.

Apart from anything else it all happens so quickly you don’t generally get the chance to think about retaliation, I caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye and by the time it has registered what was going to happen I was on the floor receiving the third whack from the baseball bat, next thing I knew was coming round to find myself surrounded by armed coppers as I was being put in the back of an ambulance.

And I really don’t consider myself as some have suggested as a ‘Daisy’ :x I’d do anything to protect my family but sometimes you don’t get the chance, fact!!!

Nothing to do with bravado, its the fact I would have a go, if I came off worse so be it, but at least I would be satisfied in my mind. All depends on the situation, you were unlucky, the lady in the link I posted earlier was lucky and having a go paid off. I would be willing to take that chance too.

Tim.

True what you say Steve, and sorry to hear of your ordeal, really. I was talking about my house and if anyone tried to come near my wife and her kids, I would do whatever I could.

In terms of road rage, I am more calm then I ever have been and let people get on with it, but in my own home, I don't have that fear.

I'm afraid most blokes are Charles Bronson in the safety of their own thoughts.
As you have said, unfortunately it doesn't happen like it does in the "movies!

Stark and Tim, totally understand what you are saying and where you’re coming from, but like I say its not always that easy, I could remember that I made a lunge for the one guy, but as I grabbed him I felt severe pain as a baseball bat hit me across the side of my head, by the time I recovered from the blow it was to late. All for £8500 in cash.

I agree Tim, I’ve always said I would have ago and have done on several occasions but its not always that simply is all I’m saying.

Remember the guy last year who went out to stop a gang of 14/15/16 year olds damaging his car. He had a go; he’s dead now, leaving his wife without a husband and his kids without a Dad, as I say it’s not necessarily about being a big man, or being a Daisy as several have said

By the time they have realised they can't leave my drive through the gates and come back for the remote code, I might have my shotgun ready :D

Other than that - let insurance sort it.

Lol. Quote of the week.

I'm more a hairy Yul Brynner, I'm no have a go hero but I'm just saying if I was faced with someone in my house I would do all that it would take and if I came off worst then be it may. I wouldnt just sit jack and nothing to do with movies etc

Tim.

The 'in my house scenario' you have to remember that you've just woken from your slumbers, still half asleep, wondering what the noise was, sleep in your eyes probably bollock naked - yes we'd all probably give ii our best shot but unless you had a big bat handy or the old 12g afraid most of us would come off worst 9 times out of 10

However I do know a bloke who saw a fella breaking into his car as he walked over a car park towards the car - The thief was so intent on starting the car that he didn't see him coming . He got a very good smack in the chops. I seem to remember that his fingers/hands suffered some damage as they were lifted off the steering wheel!

Neither parties hung around but it would have been some time before he went thieving again.

Unfortunately these are very rare occurrences and it tends to be the innocent who comes off worst.

Heeellloooo.......it's only a car. Pride n joy, some cost a bit but nothing comes close to some t@wt laying hands on your family.

Hand over the keys guys n gals

I'm with Converted Stephen on this, dodgy history myself (luckily missed out on a criminal record) but it's never worth giving up your liberty for these scum.
KEYS, there u go buddy

We probably all feel like that Tim - but when was the last time you were in a fight - I mean a fight when you got a right old a smack in the chops or a one on the end of your bugle?

Some of you will remember beedub was in this very position himself. Think there was three of them and beedub had his kid upstairs.

From memory he put up a bit of a fight at first but decided with his lad upstairs the best option was to just give them the keys.

As I've said before IMO the best thing to do.

I got burgled a couple of years back, while i was asleep upstairs, they came for the car keys... And i posted the events here at the time.

Long story cut short... I usually leave my keys on the coffee table, but for some random reason i took them up the night they broke in.

They made off with £2k of stuff, but because they didnt take my car they could only take things they could carry.

They police actually said to me at the time most of the time they break in and out and want a quick get away... They dont know who they may disturb themselves - so dont want to risk it.... If they get your car keys then your tv, amp, speakers are all easy pickings...

I dont have kids (maybe if i did i would act differently) but i agree with Tim here.

For what it's worth. I think in a car jack scenario you should save yourself and not try any heroics.

I took a proper kick in when I was 20. A&E job, some guy 6ft 2" and built like a brick s**t house wanted my bag. Initially I wasn't too chuffed. However, after being flattened and taking some nasty hits on the deck, he left with my bag and its contents - phone, wallet etc. If I had fought back, I wouldn't have left A&E after 5 hours. Could have easily been 4 weeks.

Career criminals have nothing to lose.

I know its very easy to say from the comfort of your armchair that you would do this and do that, I kinda agree to a point if it was a car jacking how much of a fight I would give, how many were involved etc, but when it comes to strangers in the house I just think its a different matter and would sure as hell try to defend everything I've worked for. I agree with aquazi that making it easy for someone to take your car keys gives them the opportunity to take all your possesions etc, some might say there just material things but its the principle of it at the end of the day.
