Car buying red flags “signs”

I was supposed to be flying up to Newcastle to collect a white Cayman 981 from a chap who works as a Criminal Lawyer (defence lawyer) tomorrow morning.

Taking my stepson paddle boarding locally on Tuesday and a white 981 overtakes a grey Vauxhall van on the opposite side of the road, so coming directly towards me, safe overtake but shifting.

Van immediately lights up with blue lights and sirens chases the Porsche.

I’ve never seen an undercover police traffic van patrolling before, and this was on a local country road within a few miles of my house.

One coincidence too many for me, the search continues :?

Porsches are conspicuous. I was on a road trip once with a yellow 991 GT3 in the convoy, and the amount of attention the convoy attracted was unbelievable. Not a good thing in my book.

Not sure I follow, you see it as a sign?

Yes, have you ever seen any of the final destination films

Don’t see many Caymans around here, let alone white ones… it all adds up :poke:

Now how did you explain that one to the current owner …

Current owner was playing hardball on price, said I’d had an offer accepted on a different vehicle at a better price… not proud, but it is what it is :(

Had booked the plane ticket that morning, but was waiting for bank details to send despoit.

I know some might think it’s daft but the odds must be millions to one and it gave me a severe case of the wobbles

I’m not saying I won’t buy a Porsche, I’m keeping the Alpina so it’s not to replace it, I just got the wobbles on this one.

Just getting a collection ready of Alpina Blue Roadsters crashing / failing / involved in heists etc using deep fake AI to tip you over the edge and sell that a doomed price

Been looking at Boxster 718s and dare I say it Z4 G29s lately and straying into Caymans as unsure I want a ragtop again.

Wished BMW had stuck with a retractable hardtop like the MX5rf.

Think you have to accept if looking secondhand most won't have been driven with kid gloves but then would you want one that's spend its life in 20mph zones going to the shops :)

That’s Cold 🥶

There’s only 15 in Alpina blue in the UK, so material may be limited… do you want me to send you some photos :camera:

I need to take some for my agreed value insurance anyway

Problem with Porsches, definitely Cayman, is specification… You’re probably aware, but almost everything is ‘extra’.

Finding a car to meet my criteria is a challenge.

I've been looking at 3 to 4 year old Boxsters and some Caymans but I think it's more what I could get in my price range rather than spec :?

Noticed though that similar age Caymans to Boxsters going by photos admittedly, Caymans don't seem to have been as well looked after for some reason.

I know what you mean, Boxster are cheaper though. I think if I was going to have a Boxster it would have to be a 718, which then means it needs the sports exhaust to sound half decent IMHO.

Also, rust is a thing on some Cayman. Was looking at a 718 2.5S at 37k miles in Leatherhead. Owner sent me a walk around video, which looked a bit dubious on one arch. Then, after I questioned it, sent me a photo of each arch lip with a crying emoji… all 4 rusting through :tumbleweed:

And not covered by warranty as that is caused by stone chips.

Another reason for full PPF of course

Wheels look damaged as well

Not kerbed but bad whiteworm on the rear wheels, not a pretty sight.

I bet the chipping is down to over sticky tyres when warm picking up stones and stuff then flying off the tyre when cold. When I had Michelins on the 135i it seemed dreadful for flying stones then had runflats on the 140i and never an issue with the harder compound.
