Car buying red flags “signs”

And refurb is not a Porsche thing as it invalidates the warranty.

So when they had a mishap with fitting a new tyre, it was a brand new wheel at £3500 +VAT :o

Been looking at Boxster 718s and dare I say it Z4 G29s lately and straying into Caymans as unsure I want a ragtop again.

Wished BMW had stuck with a retractable hardtop like the MX5rf.

Think you have to accept if looking secondhand most won't have been driven with kid gloves but then would you want one that's spend its life in 20mph zones going to the shops :)

Tim.

Problem with Porches, definitely Cayman, is specification… You’re probably aware, but almost everything is ‘extra’.

Finding a car to meet my criteria is a challenge.

I've been looking at 3 to 4 year old Boxsters and some Caymans but I think it's more what I could get in my price range rather than spec :?

Noticed though that similar age Caymans to Boxsters going by photos admittedly, Caymans don't seem to have been as well looked after for some reason.

Tim.

Why not get the Mx5RF. Better looking, imho and easily quick enough to entertain and keep pace. :driving:

That is just ridiculous for one wheel. I don't care what it is, or what it's made from, that is an absolute rip-off.

Why do we put up with mark-ups like these on car related stuff, when we wouldn't with anything else (that I can think of)?

Not paid for by me remember, but the dealer

Much cheaper in the US: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/PK50YEARSWHLS.html

.. collect a white Cayman 981 from a chap who works as a Criminal Lawyer (defence lawyer)

Yeah - that's the red flag right there.

If he's hiding the fact he's really an Estate Agent then what else is he hiding :)

I have read this thread many times now and I really don't understand the correlation between a Porker being chased by a Police van and not wanting to buy a similar Porker. :?

From the logic, maybe a van would be a good shout? :?

Yes I might revisit an RF. I did spec one up 12 months ago but ended up with the i20N as was undecided. Think I find the small looks on the road a little off putting. Neighbour has just bought a 2 year old sel soft top in the crystal blue and it does look nice. Problem is there's nothing out there similar to the RF with a manual box

The steering and gearbox on the mk4 mx5 are just spot on. I do wish it was just a tiny bit bigger, as I am 6 4" and the engine is a bit agricultural. But after the S54 most are.

I had the Mk III MX5 before my E89. I hated the electric steering in the Mk IV.

Yes it does seem a bit bizarre. Don’t buy a car make that gets chased by a police van. Sounds like voodoo to me.

Hence me making AI videos of a blue Alpina with all sorts of adventures so I can get a good deal

We also have a Mk3.75 tin top at the moment. I'm not a huge fan of that one. A bit slow witten vs the Mk4. Loved the Mk2s though But MrsG loves the colour and the tail lights on the Mk3. So it's a keeper. :D

Gentlemen…

I’m not saying I’m not buying a Porsche, I’m just saying I’m not buying that specific white 981 as it was a carbon copy of the one chased by the police, on a road very near to my house, where I’ve never seen a Cayman before… let alone a mirror image of the one I was going to buy!

Pondy, you’ve bought (more than) enough cars, I’m sure there must have been something that gave you ‘that feeling’ and made you change your mind at some point :poke:

If Mazda had made it Z3 size I reckon it would be spot on. But I can talk as I really like these and quite tempted. About as small as you can get

My Alpina was first registered on 4th April…. Which is my Birthday, a positive sign that I’ll be keeping it thanks very much

And if I was going to sell it, it wouldn’t be at this time of year or in the current market.

Honda do make some very reliable lawnmowers to be fair, it’s cool that they’ve designed that one to look like a ride-on car

Nope. I'm a gullible idiot. If it's pretty (and low mileage) I just buy it. Then regret it after a week! :D

Or start taking it apart and changing it's shape to make it better :D
