Car Alarm - Antitheft Systems for Z4 M

Hello,

I am a new Z4M roadster owner and that makes me very happy :)
The problem is that i want to stay as happy as I am right now and for that reason I'm searching to find the best solution to protect my new car.

My first thought was to install an alarm. After a search on the internet there are too many solutions and got confused. Do you have any suggestions? I have read on a forum that most cars get stollen from a replica key of the initial. For that reason the best solution is to install an alarm that prevents the car to start without the presence of a specific card. Anyone who has a similar system?

About the alarm I am also wondering if it is ok to cut all those wires needed to install an alarm?
Is there any another way without cutting wires etc? Maybe do it through another way through battery?

Also any opinions about other kinds of security systems, like bars, lockers, will be highly appreciated.

If somebody really wants your car then there's nothing you can do to prevent them taking it. They'll just turn up with a low loader and drag it off.

Best solution is still a tracker.

Mister T thanks for your answer. Do you have a tracker that don't needs wiring to suggest?

Thank you.

You can get a louder siren fitted that piggy backs off system
As its pants!
Lock nuts for wheels avoid new thatcham one as the don't comeback off!
Cheapest way is a hidden battery switch :)

scooba steve I think mine has not a standard alarm. How can I check if it has one or no?

d4dawg it has lock nuts on all the wheels fortunately. About the hidden battery switch the electrician advised me that is not a a wise choice, since if I put an alarm there will be many times due to power loss that the alarm will need reprogramming. I am not an expert but it doesn't sound very solid what he says, since he can put the switch I guess after the alarm. :?

Well after one week searching on the net and talking with electricians my thoughts are the following and please comment if you have a different opinion:
1) I will put a kill switch on battery like the one here http://www.watsons-streetworks.com/disconnects-for-batteries
2) A clifford alarm with ogometric sensor installed directly on the battery so I can avoid cutting the standard wiring of the car.
3) A gps tracker with it is own battery and maybe connected also on the car's battery. I would prefer one with no subscription plan and with big battery to avoid recharges. I have found this one http://www.haicomeurope.com/Product.shtml?pid=HI-604.html&fo=Product/GPS%20-%20GSM%20Tracker/GPS-DTMF%20tracker and I wait from the company to answer me if it can work with clifford to receive alerts on mobile.

I think all the above is good enough to avoid a thief, and after that I rest my case. :)

UK cars came std with alarm, but not elsewhere such as USA. Guessing they were an option in Greece as well, or where ever it was first registered.

Good plan
And if alarm guy was any good
He can still run the wiring to the battery
As kill switch would be put in on the negative wire that runs the earth starter

N if moans about that, new sirens like one in my Mazzer have a lithium battery in siren also

Thank you all for your answers.

ZedFourM Disklok seems like a nice solution. After seeing this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd2Op5VpUrg , I have ignored the steering wheel bars as a safety measure. With disklok though cutting the steering wheel will not be an option.
Due to the fact that the Z4 M has a fat steering wheel, do you know which size is the correct and if it fits within Disklok?

I haven't tried my Disklok on the Z4M (I bought it for my M3 - it's highly regarded on the M3 forums), but I'd say that the "small" size is almost certainly the correct one.

There's a fitting guide on Disklok's web site at http://www.disklokuk.co.uk/about-us/fitting-guide/. Or you could ring them and ask. There is some adjustment (3 settings) on the Disklok, and it's meant to be loose enough on the wheel that it will spin around.

I also bought the steering wheel cover which goes on the steering wheel under the Disklok and protects the wheel. You could probably get away with a couple of microfibre cloths, but for an extra fiver it works well.

Don't forget to make a note of the key number and keep it somewhere safe - if you lose all your keys, it's not going to be easy to remove, but Disklok can provide new keys if you provide the key number.

My Disklok finally arrived and it looks like a perfect fit for my new z4 m. I can not find an easy way that it will not trouble a thief. Thank you guys it was a great suggestion. I have to mention also that it was difficult to find a small and left hand but the guys from disklok have responded very quickly to my requests.
