Cant believe the price drops

12k unbelievable :(

Believable or not, this is the price where a deal was struck. I had the option of sitting there and fielding calls from all sorts of timewasters, hoping to achieve a higher price. 2012 looks remarkably like 2008... I did not realise the Sepang Bronze was CAT D. Still... None of the advertised cars on Pistonheads has shifted in the last month. I know that it was Christmas, but the reality is that the used car market, particularly for toys has been on its arse for a while

As I said before - I adore the Z4MC and will be back in one, but need to sort out a few things first.

Christ on a bike 12k!!!

Sod selling mine, and i agree Daz, i'm going indi now...pointless!

I expect roadster values will always be seasonal. However, I too am shocked at how how low prices have become.

I will most certainly be looking to trade to an ///M in the next couple of years. As a 3.0i owner, the low prices of an //M are good news. But I do feel for the ///M owners who are suffering depreciation.
Depreciation is only a problem if you are selling the car....and why would you want to sell a great car like a Z4M  One thing I must say... I always felt new cars are way overpriced and lose so much in value the first two years. That's why I always buy nearly new cars.

My personal opinion...when I buy a car I keep it for a very long time and resale price has never been something that kept me busy. Ok; these day big engined petrol cars are less popular and prices drop even faster. This is bad news for people who want a new car every year, but good news for people who wants to buy a performance bargain... For example if I sell my Z4M today I will lose money from when I bought it 1,5 years ago...but when I want to buy a E60 M5 today I can make some awesome deals... If you want some good investment...forget cars and put your money in something else.

When I look at he prices of the Z4M roadster in Belgium and Germany (I bought mine in 2010 for a great price from a BMW dealer in Germany). The price of somewhat the same Z4M roadster is now +/- 3.000euro (£2.500) less then when I bought mine (price at a BMW dealer). When I would sell my Z4M on the private market I would lose 5.000euro (£ 4.000). Seems reasonable after 1,5 years ownership...

Had the roof down for the first time in 2012 today (i know, i know, but it's rained a lot) and i'm hanging on to mine until 997 Turbos enter my price range.... these aren't dropping fast enough

I paid 22k just 18 months ago AUC... I just think it's recession + 400 quid tax + 25mpg + not the latest thing + oddball/petrol head choice - they will always have a following but the number of people able or willing to run cars like this is diminishing.

Simple supply and demand.

You are 100% correct. Petrol heads will always love these cars...but the number of people who are willing to pay and drive these cars are getting lower every year. My buddy who owns a BMW garage told me that on the previous 5 series model they sold lots of 530d...these days the sell mostly 520d and a 530d is becoming rare. Honestly...I drove a 520d for one day and it was so boring without any thrill or excitement... After 15min I was bored and wished I was driving my daily e46 325i. The 520d I drove costs +/- 50.000euro / £41.000 (incl. options) new. IMO way overpriced for such a boring car... But it sells because it has a small engine, low tax and good mileage.

The trend will turn some day. People just don't have the money at the moment or want to take the risk on something with a high cost of ownership, knowing they might be out of work anytime soon. Even as a second car the road tax is expensive even for 6 months.
Not driven a 520d but drove an X3 2.0d (new shape) and it was slow and being an auto (8 speed?) it was constantly changing gear. It needed a 3.0diesel engine badly yet demand is apparently for the 2litre diesel. I found an X1 2.0litre diesel manual much better but still could do with a 3.0litre diesel single turbo engine

Problem is a 2-seater high performance sports car is a non-essential luxury.

During hard times the first things to go are the luxuries - many people will have to concentrate their finances on what does most for their money.

If I fell on hard times the FIRST thing to go would be the Zed, it's a non-essential indulgence for me. It would break my heart, but I couldn't possibly make a case for keeping it

As I've said previously on here, the bulk of us on the Forum own Zeds in the £6,000 - 15,000 range, which isn't your well-to-do owners' bracket.

No, most of us are pretty average people who probably have to budget to some degree in order to indulge in our cars - hence so many Zeds available - hence prices dropping.

It's a buyers' market for sure, with the ///M cars and their hefty running costs affected most.

An additional millstone for the ///M cars is that they are "trade-Up" cars, i.e. most trade-up to an ///M, not vice-versa, so look at the sector of people who traditionally would "trade-up" and you will find those who's finances are threatened by the recession - looking to sell their existing Zeds and consolidate with something more "sensible"

So the 2-seat 'luxury' market may be suffering...my house is worth several zeds less than it used to be! If I had just bought a mondeo, or a really nice volkswagen(for example) they would be dropping pounds faster than we could imagine.

It is inconceivable that ///Ms nd nice Zs are selling for so little...but think of the fun, the happy factor :) the thing that makes us drop out tops on a cold Sunday morning...there are few things in life designed to bring us a profit, most are a financial drain with little reward - but the Z is special! Cherish them folks whilst you still have one.

does it really matter how much they drop if everything else is also dropping?

same with house prices, if my house drops by 20K i ain't bothered, if i sell then the house i go and buy will also be 20k less so makes no difference

He paid 14.5k for that a year ago? He could have had a 7 year younger Z4M for that

2 years ago. But he's almost doubled the mileage.

Part of the reason I bought the Z4MC instead of a Z3MC was that the low mileage, later-engined Z3MCs were being offered at £18k-£22k and none had a colour scheme that really grabbed me (and most had 2-tone seats which I just don't like). A couple of grand more and I bought a 3 year old Z4MC instead.

The only thing that I regret is not paying another few grand and buying the main dealer e46 CSL I was offered - as at the time I was put off by the relatively high miles on it (46k) compared to the Z4MC (9k).

As now - you could have an Imola Red Z4MR for that, with aeroskirts etc (unless IK has managed to sell now). You'd have to really want the Z3M to offer him close to his asking price.

I seriously considered making an offer for a (slightly tatty, and much modified) Z3MR advertised on PH for 5K last year. As an unmarried man with no children I just couldn't justify a fourth car

That is a massive concern if those are going for less money than some of our Z's.

Maybe it sbecause they are more rare.

Maybe we ust need a few more people to bin them off and reduce the numbers and the value will go up.

Did anyone see the number of M's registered this year. I remember there being a post a couple of years back that showed how many cars had been registered that year. (not new cars, but cars on the road, think its taken from the tax database)

Running a four-pot no longer look stupid does it. :driving:

39mpg long term, insurance around £200 per annum with 10k miles p.a. spec'd, cheap-as-chips servicing on a 3-series platform, just replaced the last two original tyres at 39,000 miles and apart from cheap servicing, its only cost me a new battery in five years from new.

And I've had more fun than you can shake a stick at
