Can i go out for a drive ?

I wholeheartedly agree, however, just to play devil's advocate on this:
It is perfectly acceptable for my manager today to go out and complete a 60 mile cycle ride as his one form of exercise, yet if I had driven that same route in my car, on my own, totally isolated?
Boris is in a no-win situation with all this I agree, and personally I think the man is doing ok. It's not his fault if tossers don't listen.
However, the above example just shows how difficult his job is.

Here in France you have to print off and fill out a form stating where you live, where you're going (tick the box) and, from today, put what time you leave home. Visiting food shops and chemists OK. They allowed bicycling to start with so all the cycle cubs decided they'd all go off like the Tour de France, all together! So, because of that, they stopped cycling completely, now they've said you can do it again individually buy just for an hour. Big fines if you're caught out without your paper or a good excuse leading to a €3500 if you're caught 4 times + 6 months in prison. That should concentrate the minds of anyone who thinks they can just go for a jolly … personally I'd arrest them for stupidity if nothing else! …

Your generosity knows no bounds! 🙄

Looks like I will be needing a battery charger shame I never took her for a spin last weekend :( I am down for perimeter checks at work every Wednesday but its only 6 miles each way wont do a lot for charging but I fully understand why I cannot drive

I only taxed mine at the beginning of the month after its Winter hibernation :headbang: Just over 3 weeks later and it’s now back on SORN as I can’t see myself getting a run in it anytime soon.

While out at work ( Water company engineer) I noticed plenty of long distance type cyclists out pounding the tarmac. And plenty of cars with bike racks, parked up in areas that are well known for mass cycling events.
Still lots of people who know better

There isn't even the need for an MOT now John
That's not how I read it.letting my MoT lapse before the 30th of March could invalidate my insurance. So it"s getting one tomorrow.

Just to give some human perspective to this - can I please ask you all NOT to drive.

My ex wife is being shielded due to underlying health conditions, so along with my kids, is isolated for 12 weeks. That means I won’t see my boys for 3 months.

My current wife is immunocompromised due to treatment for MS so she’s at greater risk.

One of my friends has just been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer and starts chemo on Monday.

Their lives could depended on how the rest of us ‘healthy’ people, respond to this crisis.

It’s tough for us all right now, but we must do EVERYTHING we can to stop the spread of the virus to save those at risk. For me, that’s personal; for you, it may not be, but unless we all do it, it won’t work.

Please park the car, shut your front door and ride it out for a few weeks.

Questioning whether you can play semantics with the lock-down rules to get out and about for no good reason is crazy (Darwinian selection at work maybe?). Deaths in Italy and and now Spain are spiralling at 700 in each yesterday alone, with the widespread flouting of lock-down rules being a factor. We are on an identical infection trajectory and also have dangerous smart-arses looking to side-step the 'lock-down' so will surely follow.

Italian Mayors trying to impose the lock-down are 'losing it', some of their rants are almost funny until you realise they now ordering funerals with no family present and are running out of places to store bodies https://youtu.be/yNvp5qw9C-o

Go for a drive you bum? I burn your house down befora' you get home, capiche eh :hattip:

Thats correct, it’s only if it expires after 30th March that you get the deferment.
Thank goodness, some one else who reads the small print.

Yep I may have understood that wrong. Mine runs out on the 30th so I assume I'm ok to leave it. I don't know

...I think you are. The official text is...

Coronavirus (COVID-19): changes to MOTs
There are some changes to MOT tests because of coronavirus (COVID-19). How this affects you depends on when your MOT is due to expire.

29 March 2020 or before
You must book an MOT as usual unless either:

you or someone you live with has coronavirus symptoms
you’re extremely vulnerable to the virus
You must stay at home (self-isolate) if either of these situations apply - do not take your vehicle for its MOT.

Follow the guidance for what to do if your MOT runs out.

From 30 March
Your MOT will be automatically extended for 6 months because of coronavirus.

That is £27 saved than as we get 6 months free :D

Is there an end date of the 6 month extension or is a September MOT now valid until next year :?

Even driving to go somewhere to exercise or walk your dog is negating the lockdown according to this...

....but not according to this from BBC News article:

Is there a time limit on how long we can be outside for once-a-day exercise, and are we allowed to get in our car to travel to go for a walk? - Sam Fearn, York

The current government guidance is to take "one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk or cycle - alone or with members of your household".
No mention is given to the length of exercise, although Cabinet Minister Michael Gove said on Tuesday that "people can go for the standard length of run or walk that they ordinarily would have done. But… the important thing is, once a day".

Nothing expressly forbids people driving somewhere to go for a walk, but scenes last weekend - where tourist attractions such as Snowdonia attracted larger than usual crowds, and with them, the risk of spreading the virus - suggest that this may not be a good idea.

You should be extremely careful that you will be able to maintain a social distance of more than 2m (6ft) from other people wherever you go.
