non z4 related, but im looking at buying a cross trainer for the lardies in the family (that would be me then) to train on

i was thinking that a second hand, been used domestically for 3 years is the way to go over new or reconditioned and sticking to the bigger brands

so - questions - is that the best approach? should i buy new and spend more (im hoping a £1k spend will buy me a reliable, last for a number of years, non wobbly device and i was thinking that something that was £3k ish a few years ago, had light usage and is now £1k )?

are there brands to avoid - and ones that are "safe" ?

are there must have features that will impact resale when the inevitable happens ?

what are questions to ask - things to test for when looking ?

any advice welcomed

I've got this one: http://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk/compact_elliptical_trainers/york__x302_diamond_elliptical_trainer/9100_p.html

Paid £600 for it a few years ago and it's never let me down. I use it quite often too (had a vigorous 60-min workout on it this morning, as a matter of fact!).

I would just read as many online reviews as you can before you decide. I've always heard that when it comes to these things you should spend as much as you can afford.

In my life I've bought a rowing machine, exercise bike and a treadmill. Novelty wore off pretty quick with each and the only one that provided any long term benefit was the treadmill that ended up as a clothes drying rack. Just a thought.

I've got one of these, BH Fitness iridium avant, love it to bits, gym quality, elliptical, 16" stride, paid £225 from eBay, I think they are around £700 new, it had hardly been used, just check the stride length of any you're interested in, I'm 5'7" ish and the stride s perfect for me, good luck!

I've had mine since September Ruby and average every other day for 48mins at a time, got to get it out of the way as soon as you get in and before you sit down! :D
