Calling Scottish Dwellers...

Salmond's answer to those questions is always "scaremongering" and "it'l all be fine, we'll figure it out".. why not have proposals before people vote for something they don't know the outcome of? surely thats the main reason that no is the only real vote at the moment. People voting yes don't really know what they're voting for.

Yes, new passports
Yes, they're not in the EU, so work permits, trade agreements, etc would all need
Border posts would depend on EU regs - whilst we'd have no 'beef' with Scotland, they're outside the EU so we'd have to control crossings.
Ryder Cup? nope.

I'm not really that bothered about this but think the inequitable system currently in place re funding is wrong for the rest of the UK.

In some ways I hope they vote Yes, all the companies move out so less tax revenue, less jobs etc for the independent Scotland and more jobs in the rest of the UK, and more tax revenue and less money disappearing out too...... and when it all wrong, the rest of the UK permits them back in to the union on completely unfavourable terms for being so stupid in the first place......

Thanks jimmybell, I suspected as much, interesting that the 2014 Ryder Cup follows the referendum vote later this month.
The more you think about what could happen should it be a yes vote, the more scary it becomes.
I've always thought 'if that's what they want let them get on with it', I just hope our government is strong enough carry out some of the tough actions that are going to be needed.
Also suspect there is going quite a bit of animosity between the two camps once the result is known, especially if it is as close as being predicted.

East six - I appreciate from your perspective everything you say - it will be disruptive and expensive and there will be down sides to Scottish independence as well as positives for Scots and others

But you are kidding yourself if you think that this Scottish feeling for the want for independence is a flash in the pan - come on - it's been a part of general discussion and desire for me and many of my friends and colleagues for the best part of my entire life - what do English people not understand about this? It's the desire of a nation to take control and make it's own decisions .

There is a massive anti- nuclear feeling in Scotland - and I also beleive in rest of GB too - it's only a means to get us a seat at the NATO top table - it has no military use whatsoever in our modern world - it is a weapon from the dark ages why would anyone want to keep it - if you really care about the British economy then get rid and save a bob or two here.

Bottom line - whatever the result the world will carry on and we will all get on with our lives as before - I just look forward like a lot of my Scottish family to the challenge of developing our country the way we would like it to develop - not someone else's idea of where it should go.

And incidentally I would be prepared to be a lot poorer for the freedom too!

Aside from the ranting about various irritations, my basic point is about identity. This is a vote where people who identify as Scottish are looking for self determination. My point is that it annoys me that MY identity as a British person is apparently not relevant. It's like a kid being powerless watching his parents get divorced. To allow people who identify as 'Scottish' to have self determination, I have to be deprived of my identity as being 'British', both in blood and culture. I don't care about Englishness or Scottishness or Welshness. I. AM. BRITISH.

As the old saying goes sometimes you have to be careful for what you wish for!
Yep the Snp when voting with the conservatives to oust the labour government didn't realise they were paving the way for Maggie Thatcher :-)

I'm intrigued what will happen to all those Scots that are in the army in English regiments are they going to up sticks and move them en mass into Scottish regiments ?

The British military recruits from all over the commonwealth, so that wouldn't be an issue. I guess they'd have a choice to stay or go. Btw Scots would be able to keep their British ( or whatever it will be called) passport in addition to a new Scottish one

Can they afford an embassy in London?
Yeah, they just need to sell half the Highlands to afford somewhere in Kensington.

They won't be that independent, the English peers in the House of Lords probably own a fairly substantial percentage of Scotland anyway

Salmonds ego trip!

I talk to a lot of people in the Borders and they are fiercely Scottish with a passion but non seem to be yes voters! Or they weren't five weeks ago.

What happens to the Union flag?
You can keep it, we have one of our own :D
Where is the Welsh part on the union flag anyway?
There is Scotland, England and Northern Irelands flags built into it but there doesnt seem to be any green for the Welsh flag.

The welsh doesn't show on the union flag because it's a principality,
Erm I think you may want to check your facts in that one.

Granted, Wales is not recognised as a country by the UN but then neither is England.

They say:-

Wales had no explicit recognition in the Union Jack as it had been a part of the Kingdom of England since being annexed by Edward I of England in 1282 and its full integration by the Laws in Wales Acts 1535–1542, and was therefore represented by the flag of England.

Another lot say:-
The Welsh dragon does not appear on the flag because when the first Union Flag was created in 1606, Wales was already united with England from the 13th century. This meant that Wales a Principality instead of a Kingdom and as such could not be included.

In 1536, under Henry VIII, the Act of Union joined England and Wales officially.

So … the EU won't allow them entry as they will be blocked by Spain (scared for the Basques doing the same of course). So no Euro as that is not allowed either, no Pound as that is not granted. Have they thought of any of those little details?

Nobody think of any positives then?

As mentioned before though, what exactly will be the difference?
The one main difference is that all monies raised in Scotland will stay in Scotland.
For years Scotland has been told that the rest of the UK subsidises it when its just not true.
We only get 70p in the pound back to be spent in Scotland.
When you look at it that way who is subsidising who?

Yes!

Speed all you want and run for the border - they won't have an extradition treaty yet given that nothing else is sorted!
Anyway how would we pay a fine? £'s €'s or monopoly $'s

I want a replacement for Trident. So don't assume just because the Scots don't want it the rest of us don't. Given the current goings on in the world the last thing we should be doing is abandoning it.
