Calling at Z4C (AUTO) drivers

updated post #1, although I feel to put your at the bottom of the list for poking me :|

The decision between manual and auto was significant. With all the crap drivers in Whitby, combined with common gridlock on the express routes, I had a real concern that my wonky left ankle would make clutch work a real chore.
After testing the 'slushbox" on my 08 Z4R 3.0si I was smitten by it.
Now I have 3 ways to shift depending on conditions and mood. D for cruising, +,- when Im feeling playful, Paddles for when Im boy racer serious.
The Sport Button cannot be more raved about. Its the adrenalin rush beta blockers can't defeat.
I press that button to feel 18 and invincible.

I wouldn't tell anyone what trans works best for them. For me though, the auto with a sport button is just about perfect.

Summed it up beautifully. + 2 more driving modes if you want to cover them all (SD and Paddle shift in Sport mode :D)

Anyone ever red-lined their auto? I haven't tried it (nor do I really want to!), but I was wondering whether or not if was possible.. or whether the autobox just overrides if you get too close for comfort on the rev counter. I've never truly paddle shifted in sports mode to the red-line..

Car bought: July 2011
Model: Z4c 3.0si sport 56' plate
Miles: 40 odd thousand (will have to check) now
Color: Silver
Wheels: 135's
Location: Staffs

Have to admit I chickened out before car did :)
If it's anything like the downshift it'll shift before you can damage the engine. It's either that or maybe like in some manual cars the engine switches off or into a limp mode. One for the embarrassing moments thread was when one of my cars switched itself off right at the top of 2nd gear in a toll-booth grand prix...

Taken on an E46 M3 convertible from 20 to 55(times two  ) with the sport button on I obliterated him but wasnt looking at the speedo at the time and was in full auto mode..

taz - I wasn't aware, but am now :) ty for the link.

bluestreak - nice to know that the 3.0 auto can beat an M3 to 110 :).. that I wouldn't have thought was possible. I guess it also depends how well the M3 driver could use his shifter to work his way through the gears..
