Bye bye tax disc!

So the reasoning is that if you can not afford an annual payment, we allow you to ay monthly but you pay more. Right ....

Yep, you're paying for the convenience of being able to spread the payment - it's no different to insurance companies that allow you to pay car insurance in a single payment or monthly/quarterly, they charge for the extra admin (minuscule though that may be)

If your taxing your DD then it makes sense to pay up front but, Not sticking up for the Gov.

I tax mine for 6 months then it goes on Sorn. They currently charge 10% premium for the pleasure of having a 6 month summer toy.

Under the new scheme of DD it's only a 5% premium so I may be frivolous and have mine on the road for 7 months next year :D

So come the 1st of October, will you be taking your unexpired tax disc off your windscreen?
Yes. peripheral vision in a Z4 is at a premium so ... "Every Little Helps"

I for one won't miss that slightly nerve wracking feeling of tearing round the perforations! :D
I always used scissors for that smooooth feel

:driving:

p.s. does this mean that all 'traffic wardens' will be issued with a hand-held ANPR device? :?

Angie, after today, you will have to pay your road tax at a sum of £1500 per year to the new Scottish DVLA

Hey, don't you go giving them ideas! But yes wouldn't put it past them, however it could 1500 pebbles? Euros or as Kevin Bridges said Smackaroonies  but it hopefully won't come to that :slaphead:

You never know, it could happen as they currently allow payment of parking via mobile which you do not display a ticket but it would be a lot of work unless they already check every legally parked car they come across even if parked in an unregulated area?

I SORN mine for 4 months of the year but always buy 12 months and then send it back for a refund on the 31st October so you dont get the 10% penalty

you joke, as soon as i heard they were doing away with the disc i said , how will they police it , at least police or wardens couls physically see if a vehicle was taxed, now they cant, which means they will be planning a lot more fixed anpr cameras maybe as part of the blue traffic cam network. definately another step down the big brother surviellance road.the evaders will now just have false or cloned plates and many will get awawy with it, before, they drew attention to themselves as they had no disc or an out of date disc.a step backward imo. i am not a tax evader or a criminal so i have nothing to fear, I do though have a bit of a problem with more and more surviellance. why should they know where we are at any given time.

And as a brucie bonus under the new workings you won't have to return it and should get the money back ASAP after making the SORN request

Yes, I do the same for the Golf. Will SORN that then and get a straight refund without the fuss. Then switch back on when the weather changes 8)

another backward step surely is the changes that you cant sell yr car with tax on, why? just makes it harder for everyone, dont get the thinking behind this , again its less choice for us

I can see the thinking though, UK is the only country (perhaps Ireland) where you can sell a car with tax on it. Bit odd to be able to sell tax as such. On mainland Europe, you just pay when you get a car, daily even.

Makes more sense to me, but the next step should be a per day charge, not per whole month so you just tax as and when. So if you go on holiday for a month, you don't tax the month.

So from the 1st October it will be a lot easier to clone a car.
why?

JE ... yes cant wait.

all this BS about cloning and traffic wardens etc ... is just that... BS. anpr picks up non payers, crims who clone number plates will just print a hi res copy off if they need to on a £150 laser. anyway how many of us have driven about with no disc? i did 4 months once

The move away from paper discs will save motorists money on postage and will offer more flexible payment options, while it will also make it harder for tax dodgers to drive untaxed. Estimates show it will save the taxpayer £10million every year.

Don't you have to turn them off on a plane? :? And... if "they" knew anything do you really think that "they" would tell us?

p.s. I went to the doctor and said "I'm a paranoid schizophrenic" He said "No you're not" .... but we know better, don't we?
