Buying my first Z4...

Hi folks, I am just looking for a little bit of advice when buying a Z4. Is there any known issues or things I should look out for, etc. I've had a look about and can't really see any known faults with them
After months of searching and deliberation into what car I was going to buy I have finally settled on the Z4 3.0si roadster. I went from alfa brera to honda s2k, then from a 535d to lexus GS 450h. I really didn't know what I needed from my next car until I realised I didn't actually need one; driving is more something I just sheer enjoy rather than a necessity. Forget 4/5 seats, I'll manage with 2. Forget the fuel economy of a diesel or alternative, I can just drive it a bit less, quality over quantity right. Although I have never driven one myself yet, I feel the Z4 is right for me.
My last car was a mazda rx8 and I got rid of it after owning it for just over a year due mainly to its fuel economy. I have noticed on paper the Z4 has good fuel economy when in comparison to its rivals, s2000, 350z, slk 350, etc. Has everyone found this to be true, what is the average fuel economy for the 3.0si in real life? I'd be delighted with 30+mpg as I was averaging around 15mpg in the mazda.
I am going to look at a couple on Tuesday/Wednesday. Both are 06 plates and have around 40,000miles on them. Any advice, or reassurance I that I've chosen the right car  , will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Hyder

hello and welcome

do a search on here, you will find post on economy, it really depends on your driving, but 30mpg is definately easily obtainable

As Taz says, there are a couple of recent threads on fuel economy and depends on driving. In my 3.0 e85 I'm averaging 32mpg with a mix of heavy and light footed driving so it's pretty good. You should be fine with your choice.

Hi and welcome.
Enjoy the car hunt.

MY Z4 replaced a 350z and does have better fuel economy, the old car was doing about 25/26. OF course your daily route and driving style will have a much bigger relative impact but I've not known anyone who owned your car getting better than 22mpg.

Thanks for advice everyone!
I had a look about some economy forums and its looking good. I can imagine for the first month not to expect anything near 30mpg as I see what she can do :D after that as you have said it depends a lot on driving style, etc so will need to wait and see. Looks to be much more than my last car so I'm happy with that.
I've put a deposit down over the phone on one so should be able to go see it at the weekend, assuming everything is fine with it I'll be ready to go! :driving:

Welcome  you wont regret your choice. I went through a similar thing spending months deciding which car I wanted.

I would say its the best all rounder. It is the most economical sportscar around and probably has the best interior aswell, it isnt the fastest but definately fast enough for the road and its an easy car to live with.

There is a thread by Alanj that will help. I printed it out before going to look at mine. It tells you the things to look out for when buying 2nd hand. Think its in the newbies section.

Picked it up on Friday... Just amazing. I've had so much fun driving it so far. I had paid for it on Wednesday but didn't look at the guide before hand. It was a reputable garage I bought it from so should be fine. I checked the general things although I've discovered there is a fault with the rear parking sensors but I won't be needing them anyway :D Worked out my mpg to be 24, I've been heavy footed so I'll check again once I've settled in. Thanks for the help again everyone. So glad with my choice!
