Buying an Aston Martin DB9

Great choice Phil, Jag currently has the Germans on the run with superb looking and well built cars by all accounts must be the Indian influence :poke:

XFR is vindaloo.

i was all excited and enthusiastic when i first read this thread, and was hoping to see a lovely aston DB9 awaiting the full cj style mod list. Imagine my dissapointment when i saw a picture of an old man jag at the end ! (sorry cj - just not a fan).....

are you sure you wont be driving round in this thinking " i wish i bought an aston?"............dont mean to offend its just what i would be thinking if it was me !.

Don't get me started else it will be custom spray on rims, headlights split to see what I can do with the amber, retrofit LED intake blades. Nargh - run it exactly as-is

You're right, it does need de-tangoing :poke:
Just steal the rims from the xj next to it

Mods - already run a few searches on eBay to understand the market.
Good news is execs crash them a lot and so there's a lot of bits around to play with.

Miss the Aston. Of course in some ways but not paying £50k and getting a tired example and the running costs on top

absolutely stunning car Phil, I've always loved the XF… definitely on my list when I need to supplement the Z with something a little more practical (read: more seats)
definitely jealous!

My vote goes for the latest XKR 5.0 Supercharged. No way is that a pipe n slippers car. Shall wait for these to become cheaper then I'll swap my Zed for one. Nice XF CJ.I think you'll grow to like it. In a former life I worked in a jag dealership, they were great cars, and really got under your skin like German stuff never could.

I saw a AM V8 Vantage Coupe today at Sainsbury's petorl station. It looked good. I have just checked used prices on PH. 5-year-old car can be bought from just £36k.

V8 may be cheapest way to enter the supercar world. Did anyone drive one before? Did CJ try a V8 when considering DB9?

I think the interior on the Mark 1 dates very quickly and can look very tired.....there are things to bring it up to date, like new wheels and clear rear lights.....yes very good value for money, but I thinkg a Maser GT for 40 something might be better in the long run....but both with reliability issues.

I have checked owner's review on parkers. Problems are endless, e.g. oil leak, clutch, etc. But it looks as good as DB9 (front and rear), but is just shorter.

V8 is much harsher drive than the DB9. Even dealers describe it more as a go kart than the DB9 the grand tourer. Manual only until iirc 2008.

Drive both and liked both, but bit more space in the 9

I know this has moved away from DB9 but a good few have followed this story and it has a new twist.

Looks like I was missold the Jag as one owner turned out on receipt of the V5 to be 3 and me the 4th. Add that to the last owner being only 10 weeks and several plate changes and it was becoming big trouble. All paperwork was 'hidden' from me

Dealer management did the right thing and after an investigation is giving me a full refund, settling off finance at no cost to me, refunding road tax, etc. as salesman had lied to me. Shame as it was a lovely car and now I'm a car down.

Update to follow as I think elsewhere i have found something interesting and just having it's bodykit/aero pack sprayed and fitted :D 0-60 in sub 6 and tops at 155, in a saloon, should be interesting....

0-60 in sub 6. So it won't be AMG or M cars then. I think it will be German again. Mercedes SLS Mk1?

British built, twin turbo diesel. Nothing exotic or special, but performance surprised me.
This little beauty is faster off the line than my 3.0 Z4!

Must be the XF 3.0l diesel CJ....?

Yep - spot on XF Premium Luxury 3.0D 'S'. This little beauty uses the Gen III engine with twin sequential turbos. Never been a fan of an oil burner but this is quite outstanding. 0-60 in 5.9. Tops 155 and gives 51.3 on extra urban and still 30 urban. Impressive performance is no doubt helped with 600nm torque on hand.

I looked at the V8 but it's 16.3 mpg and only makes the 60 dash in 0.4 quicker. Hardly worth the fuel, £440 RFL and another £10k premium.

Have a white one on order and once confirmed will get some shots up.
