Hark, have you already got a PS3?

Xbox 360 mate
In that case I'd be tempted to get a £500 plasma and a PS3, this will let you stream "Lovefilm" movies, BBC iplayer, etc through the PS3 via wireless connection, which will also give you blu-ray/HD source, just add a set of speakers. And of course all the games you can play too.

I heard the ps3 was quite noisy when playing bluerays? Thoughts?

My slim Ps3 is pretty quiet... and with the slim ps3 they added control via HDMI so i can use the play/ stop/ forward/ rewind buttons on my TV remote to control the blueray play on my PS3... without the need of buying the ps3 bluetooth remote.

As a self xmas present I purchased a Panny G20 42" plasma and 320Gb PS3 slim with GT5.... its awesome :driving:

Sound is handled with a separates amp and Kef floorstanding speakers :)

Right I'm on the way home. I've bought a 42'' Panasonic P42G20B. Got it from John Lewis with 5 yr gurantee. It has lots of connections as well as internet.

Went to order it, but it was the last one. I secured the display model which was in good nick with full warranty and knocked £100 off, so £570 all in.

Many thanks for all your help.

I didn't read through from page 1. My 13-year-old-plus Sony (CRT) in my bedroom will be useless when analogue broadcast is switched off in March. I found this: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/0871349/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CHome+entertainment+and+sat+nav%7C14419512/c_2/3%7C15701169%7CTelevisions%7C14419667/c_3/4%7Ccat_14419667%7CLCD+TVs%7C19878730.htm Or other suggestions?

I only watch TV in the bedroom before sleep (0.5-2 hours every night), so I don't want to spend too much money on it (max. £150). But it has to be reliable (not durable like my old Sony).

Wifi can not stream HD, only SD.

That's slightly misleading. I presume that by HD you mean 1080p in which case you'd need a very good wireless connection but even then are likely to have issues. 720p is still HD but can be streamed quite well over wireless as I've been doing for the last few years with no significant issues.

If you do want to make life easier a set of homeplugs from Ebuyer for under £40 will effectively give you a wired connection without the hassle of routing cat5 cabling around the house. I recently did this and it's a big improvement.

i have the WD live TV and it streams 720p over my N router with no issues. 1080p is a little laggy with a lot of buffering but eventually it still streams it.

I've just bought the WD Live TV, been trying to get it right all day. Any tips would be welcome on how to get the best out of it

I've had mine since april/ may this year and once on my network has worked a treat... I got a belkin n wifi dongle which i used to connect to my network (it wasnt on their support list but works just fine)

First thing i would recommend is getting the latest firmware on it (unless yours already has it).... added a lot of codecs for me, and facebook and pandora etc.

I have a NAS and have all my films on that, which i stream to my live tv... i configured my 'all in one remote' to it as the remote which comes with it is a little cheap and i'd imagine if i lost it would render it totally useless (as the box has no buttons!!)

I occassionally had problems with this seeing my network (esp media on my PS3)... often requiring me to restart my router.... but since assigning this a static ip has stopped that issue.

720 is not real HD, just pretend stuff :poke:

1080 is the only one I stream.
