Here are the figures from BMW UK given back in 2006. There are two versions: the earlier has the S50 engine and the later has the S54 engine, DSC and a few other little tweaks that MC anoraks (me  ) know of.
S50 S54
1998: 88, 0
1999: 243, 0
2000: 159, 0
2001: 2, 59
2002: 0, 57
2003: 0, 1

So total MCs sold in the UK 609. (S50 492, S54 117)

According to here: http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/bmw_m_coupe in the third quarter of 2013, there were a total of 503 MCs still accounted for in the UK including 84 SORNed.

You going to go for HID's inkey?

What are you doing up in suffolk? Or was it just a blast? I'm working in Norwich all next week, there are some fun roads up there!

I still think they will make it look non original when they are turned on so would not be for me on a modern classic.

Fair enough, can't say I agree. White light (to me) looks infinitely better than yellow, and doesn't change it looking classic really, you only have them on at night! Halogens can be so dull it's almost frightening at times.

 added the 83 sorn'd

Still seems high though.

You mean you're surprised that 106MCs have been lost? The MC is notorious for swapping ends, particularly in the wet, and it can catch out the most experienced of drivers because the suspension has far too much play permitting unpredictable, sudden, lateral and longitudinal load shifting. It is a totally different driving experience to the Z4MC, which is far easier to drive because of the stiff rear suspension and very safe geometry settings.

Hence quite a number have been written off over the past 16 years. Sod taking originality that far, being able to see at night is far more important
