Broken Springs - List (add yourself if you've been affected)

My driver side went at around 32,000. I replaced both to be on the safe side and had no probs over the past 23,000 miles...

me too, on a 2005 2.5s one rear spring at about 15000 miles and the other rear spring at about 20000 miles have since ditched runflats for regular tyres

Hi

Had car serviced and airbag warning light checked yesterday. Upon inspection I have a broken rear nearside spring.

Car Details

2004 (04) - January Build Date
3.0 Roadster
76,000

BMW Recommended that both are replaced although if you have a warrantee they only replace the broken one.

£246 for the repair fitted. I may however go for a ful set of Eibachs, anyone fitted these and if so what is the opinion?

There seems to be a pattern emerging.

Gor Eibach Pro springs all round on mine.. Do It.. You'll love the look and the feel of them. They are much better than BMW springs IMO

And another one bites the dust.
2004 2.5
21000miles
Only one spring gone but think to replace both!

When do BMW actually stand up and admit faulty parts?

Near side rear today!
£188.02 for a pair from BMW as no time to get alternatives made as off on European tour next week.

I can tell that these wernt the orginal springs and had been replaced sometime previous before i bought the car.

Z4 Alpina, 2004. 79,000 ,miles

Not mine but my Son's '58 3.0si Sport on 20k miles just one spring ...............for now
A late 2008 for Heavens sake .............fortunately still in warranty :headbang:

Not good esp at just 2yrs / 20k miles.

I'm sure they will, but it would be wise to check they replace both not just the broken one.

Hi guys!

Anyone replaced their rear springs with some from Unipart?

http://www.unipartautomotive.co.uk/Steering-Suspension/Springs/BMW-Z4-3.0-2006/Parts.aspx?SubGroup=ST~Steering+and+Suspension~SPRS-ST~Springs

Coming in at £91.21 delivered so pretty much half the price of BMW. Is there any difference between the springs on my Si coupe (with the M Sport suspension) and a standard 3.0 or is it the shocks that are different?

Afraid I've got to be added to the list for the second time. This time the near side rear. 2007 3.0Si Coupe 40800miles. Offside was replaced in Feb under good will, BMW now replacing this one under good will as well (after a little gentle persuasion).

Wow, Free? Do you have any warrantee left on the car?

Nope none left. I walked in with the broken spring in my hand and said that it wasnt acceptable. They said that because I had full BMW SH they would do it FOC.

Phew....!!

V.nice, although full BMWSH is completely irrelevant to it being acceptable or not. Well done though.

A couple of 1000 miles ago I heard a rattle, clunk and boing, stopped the car and searched around. I found a bit of spring. I drove carefully and found nothing untoward, it drove OK. I tried to check but couldn't see much, and decided to have the garage check it our when my next service came up. Of course that took a while.

Upon inspection they found BOTH rear springs were broken!!

This garage (where I bought it) quoted £426 inc VAT.
A BMW specialist my wife uses quoted ~£200 (+VAT?).

After reading this I called Wood BMW and referenced the 25 pages of woe herein. They told me BMW were willing to consider goodwill payments in part of full, for vehicles that are less than 5 years old. Mine is 5 in December (phew) and just under 50K. I now need to take it in, let them take a look and apply to BMW UK. Their quote is £304 inc VAT.

We'll see...

if the worst happens and you have to pay yourself they are very easy to change yourself i put a piece in the how to section a couple of years ago if yours is std without the m sport suspension should be about £150 for the pair

I have now added my third I have an 06 plate the first one was done under warranty with about 15000 on the clock second after 25000 and I have just done the third 39000 2 os 1ns :?
