Brakes e86 and e85

Having previously owned an e86 and now own a prefacelift e85 i find the 85 brakes to be somewhat lacking. Does anybody else think that the prefacelift brakes are poor? When i say poor i mean very much none confidence inspiring. 8)
 
Probably down to your pad choice more than anything else. Get some Performance Friction Z-rated pads in there (.11 compound) and you will never look back.
 
Get some 330i/330d calipers and brackets from eBay. New 325mm discs and decent pads.

Well worth doing as an upgrade.

Pads wise, I use Brembo. £41 for fronts and rears from euro in Si sizes (I have the 325mm upgrade on mine)

Yeah the upgrade is on my list but i think the standard ones arent as good as i would expect. :thumbsup:

How easy do they swap over Mike? Do they have the same fitment to the legs? My calipers are rusty as a 80s Sierra was thinking of getting some new ones at some point but if 330 brakes go straight in I'll get some of them. They seem in abundance.

Don't know if the facelift are different? but I don't doubt my E85 stopping wise. Do you know for certain that you're driving on OEM parts at the moment? - that might explain it.

I'd put money on the brake fluid needing a change. Personally I'd do this before spending any money on anything else.

The facelift are different to the pre. 325mm fronts as opposed to the 300mm on the pre.

How vigorously are you driving to warrant the brake upgrade?

Only asking as i have the normal 3.0i sized brakes on mine, albeit with drilled/grooved discs and textar e-pads, and have no problems braking.

It actually stops very well. I've had a few near misses and I can't fault the brakes at all.

No too vigerous but both my previous e86 and e92 330d had brakes thst would make the car stand on its nose. The e85 just feels like its just not stopping aswell as it should. Think i will have a look at the pads on Sunday. They never feel like they are scrbbing off any speed, i like to feel more of an initial bite.

It's one of them what you get used to situations. Both the cars you mentioned and in particular the e86 have conditioned you to better braking than a pre e85 can provide.

Sure thing. What size are your rears? If below 294mm you should get those done too :wink: :fuelfire:

They already are. It's just the fronts than differ on the pre/post 3.0 cars.
