Brake Judder

After searching on here and finding a link to a stoptech brake judder article http://www.stoptech.com/technical-support/technical-white-papers/-warped-brake-disc-and-other-myths (very informative) it sounds like I need my front brake discs skimmed.

I just wanted some advice before I start down this route, to make sure I have read the article correctly.

I’m getting fairly bad judder at 60mph+ braking through the brake pedal and steering wheel. I also get light judder at other speeds. It sounds like I’ve over cooked my brakes and left build up on the discs.

Does this sound right? I was told at my last service I still had plenty of life left in discs and pads so I don’t want to waste money on replacing them.

That's what I thought but I hoping I could save a bit of cash.

I've seen some brembo full front kits on eBay for around £130 will one of these be ok?

Did get some discs skimmed years ago as a short cut .... Didn't last though and ended up getting new ones shortly afterwards. Wouldn't do it on a performance car though .... Brakes are too important!!

If you've just got uneven pad build up, then either go for a good hour's run where you can be sure of using the brakes for long periods at high speed - i.e. twisty mountain/hill/countryside roads - or take your wheels off and do a bit of hand sanding. It might not remove the lot, but you'll be able to feel/hear whether it's reduced the judder/wobble or not, and go from there.

I get a similar thing now and then on the ///M (as I did on the M5s), and a couple of weeks of normal driving later it is gone again - or if I go to the 'Ring with the wobble/judder, I tend to come away wobble/judder-free.

It may be that your front bushes are worn, and amplifying a slight wobble/judder.

I had this - 60mph and above, really bad brake judder. My Indy thought the control arm was bent and the bush worn on the drivers side, asked for my permission to take it apart, then discovered the arm was fine but the bush was more of a twig and pretty much non-existent. Problem was every time I had braked the force had changed the toe of the wheels and the result was two sets of knackered discs and pads on the front - which had to be replaced.

If I were you I'd take it to someone reputable to get it checked out before changing parts - unless you know precisely what you are doing and what is wrong of course, in which case I'll shut up :D

The mechanic I usually use for things like this is on holiday. So I might try a bit of spirited driving to shift the layer and drop it in to him for a once over when he's back. It brakes well just judders so I don't mind leaving it a week.

Thanks for help guys. (And no I don't know what I'm talking about, just google knowledge ;))
