Boot open fully?

When I open the boot it only opens a little way on it's own, before I have to push it open the remainder of the way.
A little annoying, just wondered if it was normal. Did a search but couldn't find anything.

The 2 x struts are damping to stop it flying up dangerous  ....there is no assistance on the boot as far as i know

Coupe and roadster are different as well I suspect. :poke: The pressurised gas probably loses pressure over time, also perhaps not as vigorous in the autumn/winter due to the gasses contracting? Maybe I'm talking rubbish but it certainly seems that way on my merc too.

The coupe is also known as the hatchback version of the Z4 :P

I'd imagine this is partly due to the declining temperatures.

On all my previous hatch backs the gas struts often weakened in winter.

Gas struts DEFINATELY weaken in colder temps. I don't notice this on my Z4 (roadster) as the boot only just opens a fraction when you hit the switch, then you manually open it. But I do notice it on my van's rear tailgate: I had the struts regassed to cope with the extra weight of a bike rack I have permanently mounted on the tailgate - it's fine in summer but at the moment it doesn't stay up very well unassisted.

They are certainly not intended to open the boot, merely provide assistance and keep it open once raised. Would not be much use if it knocked your teeth out each time you hit the button

Do you have the rolling privacy cover thing? I find the amount the boot opens on its own is affected a lot by whether that is attached or not.

I do yes, hadn't thought of that
