Boot hinge springs

Just noticed these springs on the boot hinge tonight. Is the one on the left side meant to be hooked onto the stud?

I assumed it should, so I put the loop of the spring onto the stud, then shut/opened the boot and it made a few loud creaks & cracks, then pinged off the stud.

The spring on the right hand side looks like this, so I assume its snapped.


Or are they meant to be as per the photos?

The left one is correct- it is to help pop the boot on unlock- I'm not sure off had on the drivers side one.

It wont stay on, the springs comes off the stud every time.
Can't see what's wrong though.

No, I meant it is correct not to be on the stud. It is correct as it is in the picture.

That would explain why my boot lid doesn't spring open much when unlocked. It barely moves - not enough to get your fingers under the lip. I'll look at buying another spring.

Mine is the same - righthand side spring is broken

It doesn't look like it is, would be worth giving Sopers or another parts department a call.

New question on an old thread. Has anyone found a reliable source for these springs? I don't even see them on the EOM replacement hinge images.

Just looking for one at the moment. Incidentally, it broke on the same side as the original poster (the right). I know, n=2, but wondering if there is a greater likelihood of breakage on that side.

Thanks, Umfaan. I am in the USA (Boston, Massachusetts). I am only needing the springs that help the boot pop up when released. The hinges themselves are fine.

I have the same question too. Anyone knows where i can grab a spring or two? One of them snapped quite some time ago. I have driven at times with the boot unlocked without even realizing it (key press in my pocket i suppose)
