Bonnet stuck - help

Nope, it was mine. Its not a split, I think what you are looking at is a gap in the metal holder, to guide the cable?

I'm pleased to say that all seems to be okay.

Engine oil topped up
Bonnet sensors removed
Engine bay cleaned
Axel grease all over the bonnet catch

Morning guys!

Sorry to dig up an ancient thread. Was driving home in the swimming pool the storm had turned the M11 into, and the car since sounds awful.

On top, the bonet release is not not working - Ive looked through this thread, taken the grills off, taken a look on Youtube, and tried pushing/pulling anything I can reach and well, here we are.

I know its probably really dumb, would it be possible to get an "This bit here, numpty" idea of which bit controlls the release?

Thanks so much!

Sorry for you plight
Few years since I sold the car so can’t send you a photo
To release you need to press gently down on the bonnet and have someone pull the release or if doing it yourself reach up to where the cable is
Some models had side catches so need to know which you have
Probably just call breakdown service

If you go in through the headlight cover under the wheel arch on the off side [ the one you change the headlight bulbs with] you can see the cable and you can also see were they join. Give one or both a tug and your bonnet should pop.

Thanks chaps - on mk1 Z4, socan go in through the grill and get to the mechanism. Wil ltry to get someone to give it a push otherwise have to start dissassembling the car to see what state the engine block is in.

Had the bonnet latch break on my z4. Finally managed to release it but here's a pic of the back of the mechanism for ref. The point at which the cable attached has snapped off on mine

I have just experienced the same problem...new car...bonnet stuck...and the forum advice ...it worked...the good lady pulled the internal lever, I pressed on the bonnet and hey presto it opened. I then DIDN’T read the next bit about de greaser and got the WD40 out but hey it worked and is working properly.

Both mine and a friends e85 3.0 2003 and 2005 have had this problem .
They were both fixed by one person pressing down on bonnet and slightly bouncing it (flat hands careful not to dent bonnet)
whilst the other person pulls the release catch inside the car.
As stated in previous posts would certainly try this first.
Also as stated above ensure its greased once open
 :?

Have someone gently push on the bonnet as you pull the release. If that doesn't work, remove the grills to access the catch from below (gills are removed by gently pulling forward from the top corners) and push the catch over

Its fairly common and usually due to gunk around the release catch and the cable - make sure you clean around there fully afterwards with a degreaser and use some oil/grease (not WD40!) - I use a oil with graphite added.

I have popped the grills out, but unsure which bits to try and push and pull. I will see if I can get someone to give me a hand.

Only got the car yesterday, it's #185!
