BMWhat app for android and Ipad

I've been looking at this BMWhat app for a quite a few months and waiting for the developer to implement the coding for the Z4. Other BMW models have been up and running for a while.
Well now is the Zed's turn and coding is now built in. I only have the free lite version which is just for testing of compatibility but GM5 and the LSZ modules can now be programmed in the full program as well as error codes checked and erased etc. The price is £38.53 which is expensive for an android app but if you want your soft top to close by the fob etc it is quite a small price compared to a dealer I suppose.
You will need a usb cable obdII adapter and probably a USB otg adapter to talk to the car for your phone/tablet. It has Bluetooth compatibility but not for coding on the zed.

It certainly feels a quality app and will put this on my birthday pressie wish list next month even though I have the BMW suite of laptop progs.

At that price I think I'll wait for the bluetooth coding compatibility.

You may have a long wait. :( The app says that vehicles after 3/2007 can be coded with BT but earlier ones require a cable connection.

Well I've acquired a second hand CNM tablet (with a cracked screen but it still works fine) downloaded BMWhat Lite and lo and behold it works with my USB/ODB cable (D-CAN bought from BM Technic) on both my E85 and the wifes E46, now trying to convince my self to buy the full app. A bit difficult as I already have the full suite of BMW software, DIS/TIS/NCS Expert, INPA etc running on a laptop. :? :? :?

so what cable do i need to use this app?? ive aleady got an OBD cable (blue one) is this all i need? im confused lol

The link is 8 months old and the file size is only 186Kb instead of nearly 4Mb. I wouldn't touch it with yours.

Google play link here. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iViNi.bmwhatFull&hl=en_GB

Read the reviews.

The Lite app wont code over anything its only to read error codes and to show if it will work with your car> See bladeowners post above you'll need a cable to code the E85

Marius you may be right and i have nothing to say you arent, but the lite version i have just downloaded is version 6.05 and the version in your link is 3.3 I will let you know if its still crap or whether it has improved.

well it connects and the interface looks really user friendly but it doesnt see the coding modules as indicated in the thread.

Sent from my GT-I8190N not a car using Forum Fiend v1.0.1.

Rusky, Looking at the table above again, it looks like probably no zed will work with bluetooth. I have an E85, I think that maybe E86 is the same regardless of age. I have a cable and a bluetooth adapter, only the cable shows coding on mine. The bluetooth adapter does connect though.
The screenshots in the first post are from my tablet using the cable. Hope this helps.

Would be good if you could order the cable free of charge in app once you purchase the full app. thirty odd quid plus the cost of a cable is not tempting me. Shame cus the app looks good. :(

I know what you mean. It is expensive for an android app, I think they'd sell more if it was half the current price. I have a cable and so I might ask Father Christmas.

I was interested in this and sourced a android tablet to trial the 'Lite' version of the software. I used my existing USB to OBD lead (purchased from BM Technic) and the software interrogated all the ECUs and I was able to send off a log file which has been interpreted by the BMWhat people, sample below

Instrument cluster:
Instrument cluster / Kombiinstrument
Fehler: Passenger airbag stage 1
Code: 0020
Center-Console/ Schaltzentrum Mitte
ECU not present/no response from ECU
Light/Rain Control:
Light / Licht
ECU not present/no response from ECU
Light / Licht
ECU OK, no Fault Code
Heating / AC:
Aircondition / Klimaanlage
ECU OK, no Fault Code
Additional heater / Zusatzheizung
ECU not present/no response from ECU
Park distance control:
Park Distance Control / PDC
ECU not present/no response from ECU

But I have decided not to purchase the full version as I have the full suite of BMW Software already

So have decided to offer the Tablet in the Market Place withe the 'Lite' version installed, so if you are interested all the details are there
