It was an officer in a car Adam. Apparently he'd followed me for 4 miles, half a mile back from me.

It probably goes without saying but just to make sure - be CAREFUL when you open your doors to ensure that you don't ding the adjacent car.
...and do try and park in a straight line, it looks so much better on the photos

Hate to put a bit of a downer on proceedings but I've just spoken to eSure & while they'll cover my car in the static display the parade lap is another matter. :thumbsdown:
Obviously full trackday insurance (~£100) would be over the top... do you know if the BMWCC have 'prewarned' any track-friendly insurance companies so we don't have to buy full trackday cover when we contact them? Obviously some may not be bothered but I'd hate to be dinged by someone waving at the crowd, dodging a rabbit etc!
Also do you know if Silverstone require us to wear crash helmets for the parade lap - sometimes it's written into their insurance requirements.

I'll be doing a Maniac and giving everyone an ultra wide berth. I include parking in that as my humble 03 doesn't have a single door ding...

UPDATE - INSURANCE
Since we've had a number of queries ref this topic then it's worth mentioning that all participants should note that insurance is an individual responsibility. If you are concerned then you should check that your insurance covers this type of event (i.e. a car show and parade lap).
The BMWCCGB hasn't 'pre-warned' any track-friendly insurance companies. I'm not aware that helmets are required however I will check and get back to you on this.
For those covered by Admiral (and guess related insurers such as Elephant) - as soon as you put a wheel on track you are NOT covered even if it is not a track day. Parked up on display is fine but not going round the track even on a parade lap.
So, I think that under these circumstances I am seriously considering not doing the parade lap. Wouldn't be surprised if some boy racer numpty pranged my 2 month old zed....

My insurers are being very sensible about it with the regional underwriters considering following a pace car travelling in one direction @ 30-40 mph is going to be far safer than driving on the road.
They've had to refer it to Head Office as many of you have noted, you'll be on a dedicated race track & putting a single wheel on there invalidates your insurance. I don't use your average insurance Company, so will be interested to see what they have to say this Friday when they agreed they would get back to me.

So I have just spoken to Direct Line, who have in turn referred it to their underwriters...
Whilst parked in the display area, all good
As soon as I get on the track, not covered for any incidents that happen, take part at my own risk :thumbsdown:
Whilst they and the underwriters understand it is not a 'track day', and the car will not be driven in a race, and will be behind a safety car etc. etc., they cannot deviate from the wording of the policy which states that use on a track of any kind is prohibited. This after keeping me on hold and the underwriter checking the event website
Haven't 100% decided, but TBH I think the decision will be to do it whilst keeping lots of distance from the car in front and a wary eye behind. It's almost the whole point of going after all...
