BMW tech crashed my car! What would you do?

Did they put it on a ramp for you to see underneath. I'd want to see that as a minimum. If you have any concerns an independent inspection at BMW cost should put your mind at rest.

Confirmation in writing that no third party was involved or any law breaking ,the authorities would only have your Reg .............
Maybe it needs a meeting with Dealer Principal

If it was slid sideways into a kerb hard enough to damage suspension then the driveshaft will have transmitted some of that energy into the cv joints and the diff with further potential for damage.

This

Lets hope OP doesn't get the BMW survey "how did we do "

I have found in the past Dealer Principals are very sensitive to bad publicity esp of this nature

I would be rejecting that car...

God knows what could go wrong with it down the line.... Diff bearing damage, bushes, wearing out tyres..

He has wankered that.....

I wouldn't have it back in all honesty. It'd be a case of you broke it you bought it or suggest you'd only find it right to make the wider customer base and corporate aware of just how they treat customer's cars

To be honest after seeing it I did lose it! The tech obviously lost the back end driving like a wally on the test drive :x All I can do is make sure it's put back together properly and I expect an independent report to confirm it. But never nice knowing somebody has took liberties in your car :(
Like some have said and I agree with, who knows what damage it might have done? Could I really have a case to refuse the car and demand they buy it off me?
They won't even give me a proper replacement car. I said I'm not happy driving around in bright orange convertible and should be given at least an m sport car of some description. I was told BMW don't give us those to give you sir! :x :x
By the way I should add this is Cooper Chelmsford

As others have said that's been played down by the tech. Certainly looks like a rear end slide hitting a kerb. Why was it in the road? Post work test drive or something else?

I'd make an appointment to sit down with the dealer principal and get an explanation of how it happened and their proposals. Repairs, possible other drive line damage, extending. Warranty and some compensation like your next service.

Don't let them start until that meeting is held and if not go to another dealer to get it fixed to their satisfaction.

I would definitely want to be there when the independent inspector goes to test the car.
I'd also want to go under the car with the inspector and get him to explain exactly what he's looking for.

What a crazy situation they've put you in. :x

With the level of damage and unknown damage that might not arise till down the line the above is very good advice.

First up ask for a written explanation as to exactly how it happened. Then if they are not giving you everything you are reasonably entitled to tell them you will just take the car, get an engineers report, get it repaired, get an identical hire car and place the issue and costs with a legal claims service. You have a 100% case so can watch the B* squirm.

I would definitely also mention that you have been "asking for advice" on this on and various other car forums and work into the conversation that you have named them and posted pics. I would also tell them You are writing to BMW. Knowing their name is getting a public hammering may help you get a thorough and quick resolution to this. I would be looking for some sort of financial compensation for your inconvenience/distress and the lack of decent loaner. Dealers are paranoid about bad press and loosing performance/customer service bonuses. Good luck with getting it sorted out.

Looks like the edge of the tyre is well scuffed as well !

Then of course when / if it starts to rag tyres they will deny all liability,
Go for their testicles!

This is a really dodgy situation to be in.
Even if they fix the car and everything that they think may be damaged (obviously they will replace as little as possible) something could go wrong further down the line, whether its weeks, months or years, who knows.
They would have been better telling you that they were waiting on parts to fix your initial problem and then repair the damage they caused without you knowing.
And people really value FBMWSH, it makes you laugh really.

Dealer pincipal is the ONLY person you should be dealing with - dont talk to any off the hired guns!

Dodgy indeed! Legally they only have to repair the damage.
The + points if any are
They will repair the dent £100
My rear tyres were weeks away from replacement £300
I have bought a newer m sport steering wheel that I'll get them to install £80
I'm not putting miles on my car
It won't be classed as being in an accident

The negatives
I know it's been in an accident :x
Having to drive an inferior car

Legally they only have to repair the damage.

Legally correct but luckily BMW rate their public reputation more than legal small print esp COOPERS CHELMSFORD
What a reputation all those wonderful Company City Executive jets trashed round the streets by unregulated Dealer employees ( your's went wrong what about all those that manage not to crash
Make an appointment to see the Dealer Principal
