Looks quite promising to me, I've always wondered about replacing the exhaust gas driven turbine of a turbo with an electric motor.. now I don't need to wonder about it any more.
The website claims a 40bhp boost for 60 seconds (and then it has to recharge) - their own dyno's only show a peak gain of 10bhp-30bhp.

But I suppose £1000 for 40bhp is better than spending £5k on a carbon intake & Alpha-N :P
 
if an SC gets developed on forum then I can see myself going for a pre facelift 3.0 just to tune it if the gains are good.
either that or get an M...wont be tuning that...343 or whatever seems ample for me (FOR NOW!! :evil: )


either way definitely be back in a Zed in the next 12 months.
I wanted to buy my old coupe back off ed jedi, especially after he spent the money I didn't want to but my investments look like they are going to be lagging for at least another couple of months.

Corky Bell wrote another book called 'supercharged' which has some more info (it is thicker too) and maybe more suitable for this topic as it mostly addresses superchargers (and this is more turbo orientated), but for the rest it's basically a copy (the same diagrams about intercooling shown earlier are also in that book). Somewhere it is downloadable I think (torrent or so) as I certainly didn't buy it :rofl: .

But not all info in both these books is thàt good imho, because I think he (the writer) contradicts himself on a few points in both these books (on some systems he has a different opinion in the one book than in the other....) and that's a bit strange. MAybe he changed his mind....

But supercharged is interesting for the ones who want to learn as it explains the different types of superchargers (centrifugal/rootes/twinscrew)

With these books the math still is simple (1st grade highschool, simple multiplying/dividing).
The rest of the info is just given in numbers, no physics (there's no thermodynamics or so..)

The biggest problem i see is in the design of the system. Hopefully guidok and others with knowledge on this will be on board?? And then the BIGGEST problem getting someone with enough knowledge and tech know how to map the cars and make them safe so we dont fill the countries scrap yards with M54 engines.

Not sure, but if anyone with an m54 is local to watford/NW London, they're welcome to test fit mine before it goes on my track car.
 
I actually have 2 m112 Eaton superchargers from my jaguar S-Type R tthat I'd be willing to sell :lol:
how do they compare to the superchargers suggested?
Removed from the 400bhp 4.2 v8, wish I could fit one to the ///M :evil:
 
For a forum-designed supercharger, establish a plan of action and milestone, identify a lead and POC for each step, and a date each piece is due.

Some of the things you need to work through:
1. Type of supercharger - centrifugal, roots, twin screw
2. Power goal (influences intercooler requirements and cost)
3. Tuning - who?
4. Engines supported
5. Funding - will everyone pitch in for one member to create a prototype, and then later get the whole kit when risk of failure has subsided? What about others who refuse to help in the early stages, but want to purchase a kit later without taking any risk or helping with the R&D cost?

Sounds to me like if you really want to do this, interested parties should front a little bit of money for one user to take on the project. Expect the car to be down for 6 months as issues are sorted. The largest cost and potential dealbreaker is the tuning. I would start with reputable tuners first - AA, NickG, Evolve, etc.

The rest is easy - designing brackets and getting a company to machine them, off the shelf intercoolers and superchargers.

I'd start with a low boost kit first to get everything sorted, then a "stage 2" later when the quirks have been fixed.

Ppl who put money in upfront get double the amount back as savings of the finished part...

E.g tony pays in 200...final kit costs 2000....that buyer pays 1600
Bob pays in nothing....pays 2400 to offset the others who did...

If that mAkes any sense....

Macs one was £2500 and thats the one im after if i go with the M54 swap, £500 labour thats 3k for a kit that wont blow up and has a 2 year warrenty.

Haha that doesn't sound bad!
Although its still worth trying to make a cheaper kit imo, especially if they develop one for the M :driving:
