Bmw scanner 1.4 on windows 11

Hi, anyone managed to get this to actually work on windows 11? I’ve installed the program and the drivers but when I run it I always get a message saying ‘Device drivers are not installed’.

Anyone got it working on windows 11 please?

I’ve tried 3 times and given up even with street/chris helping remotely

I use it on windows 10 but I guess windows 11 is a different kettle of fish.

Allegedly it's possible on Windows 11

I don't think windows 10 and 11 differ too much in their driver handling any more (earlier versions of windows 10, maybe, but the later revisions seemed to get a bit of an overhaul, although it's not my area of expertise)

I had to use that link above to get it to install on my windows 10 virtual machine (trust me, install all this diagnostic software to a VM, remove it's network access so it never updates and dump the virtual harddrive on a USB or Google Drive or something so you don't have to revisit this pain in the future! And also, so you're not messing with unsigned drivers on your main operating system...)

I would test it for you, but my diagnostic laptop is too old to run windows 11, and I don't want to faff around with the hacking to make it install.

It used to be possible to right click on the file then there was an option to run it under any previous version of windows - not sure if thats still there in W11?

Yes, that option is "Compatibility Mode". In Windows 11 it will allow you to simulate a Windows 7 install.

Compatibility mode won't get you around driver installations though, sadly, it just impacts the top level software. And it's the drivers Jim is struggling with (which, as we can see in the screenshot, the software has installed).

You should also be able to run the old drivers in compatibility mode as well - maybe only for a W11 upgrade though rather than a fresh install?

It’s been years since I’ve played with computers. Unfortunately the only Windows 11 PC I have is my work one and they won’t let me install my own software on it.
