BMW M4 Prices

I didn't really "Get" the new M3 when I drove it, but I think I do now, and think I would happily have one now.

I think that it would be a great car, that would mean you don't need two cars, like a Z4m and say a modern daily car. Its probably a very good daily car if your a petrol head. I personally couldn't stand a new modern eco daily type car. They are all so boring, BMW etc included.
The trouble is every car has some sort of compromise, I swapped my Z4M and a 520d touring for the previous model V8 M3 and it was a big mistake because you instantly lose the special feeling you get when you use a car everyday and there is nothing better than using something a little special every now and again.

The new M3 will make a far better daily driver than the old model for sure as it has better brakes, is slightly lighter and has oodles of torque which the old model just didn't have but for me there isn't such a thing as a do it all car and you are better with a daily and something nice in the garage for the weekend I reckon.

What I don't get about this is you expect to at least loose the VAT in the first year, in fact as soon as you've driven out the door so that's 20% lost straight off! The list price starts at £57,055 so dependant on the spec then I would say some of the values are correct, if not a little high.

Just like everything if there is a demand then they will command a bit more money but as BMW produce more the less valuable these cars become. I'd still say that residuals are what is expected. Especially if you've not gone OTT with the optional extras and only gone for what you need.

Also they didn't start life at £64k as being quoted, feel free to show me a broucher or link in the UK with the price quoted as from £64k OTR for the M4 Coupe, I'm looking at BMW UK and can't see it. We all know the script, optional extras help sell that at but give very little extra value when you come to sell it to a dealer.

The £57k i manual, most add DCT, so that adds £2.5k straight away, we're at £60k....and according to the dealers the DCT definitely does add extra value down the road. From there, to add £4k to lit really isn't difficult.

I know you will buy rather than PCP but if you get PCP quotes for both they should give you the answer. That's their bet on the difference in depreciation over the life of the contract.

I use my Z4M as my daily, but I don't commute as such. I'm a contractor, so one week can be doing 1000+ and maybe not much for the next few. I have used it when I was commuting doing 400 a week and it didn't lose its specialness to me.

I've owned it for over 3 years and I still feel the same about it as when I first got it, however on some longer journeys, the comfort of the M3 would appeal! Also adjustable suspension would be great asy girlfriend finds it too hard.

I guess it depends what sort of person you are. I would be bored in 5 mins of a 320d or similar, but I think I would be more than happy with a new M3 or similar and using it as a daily, as I have been with the Z4m.

Yes I agree it is a tricky one and one of the reasons I went for the M3 was because my 520d was just a gutless noisy thing and I didn't like the engine at all but at the time(wrongly) I just saw my Z4M as a waste because it had the specialness/power but I rarely got to use it so having something quick to use as a daily did appeal like the M3.

I understand why you still love the Z4M as a daily because it is a purpose built sports car that looks special and has a special engine, sadly the 3/4 series is just a family car with a few special bits added so its almost like polishing a turd!

I do admire all the guys/girls that use the Z4M as a daily because as you mention the ride isn't exactly supple and with the electronic damper control you get with the M3/M4 it does make it ride nicely.

True, extras add up all too easily. Like I said you always loose the VAT as soon as you drive it so a £66k car is worth £55k maximum to a dealer as soon as you've bought it.

You usually loose most of the value in he first year and residuals are usually predicted over a 3 year term so buying at 2 years you will loose but not as much as you'd loose in percentage terms over year 1. I think given the values we will see them level out a bit and unless BMW do something silly in terms of trying to sell them which 'floods' the market then the values should remain strong for the foreseeable.

The only problem is a facelift model is on the way early next year... So the residuals will fall as the facelift comes out.

There is always a facelift or new model around the corner. You have to get one at some point or you never will. Same with laptops and tech etc.

Indeed but it's usually at least 3 years before the facelift. Cars been out what a year? So it will be at least two years before that happens.....the 4 Series Coupe dropped onto the market in October 2013 so 3 years after would be 2016 making the M4 facelift 2017. Can't see any facelift being 'early' 2016 even for the standard 4, it would be mid to late 2016.

But like everything in life there is always something else around the corner. If residuals are the issue then you buy a cheapie run around that you stand to loose very little on.

Hi this is the complete opposite to what I have done... I have just come from the new M3 to the Z4 3.5... Yes the car was great as a daily driver , fuel around the doors about 24 mpg... It had the adaptive suspension was was still a tad hard in comfort... A lot of people were changing springs to H and R.. I had the DCT version and you could feel every gear change quite brutal on some occasions even set in the softest of settings, my wife never liked getting into it at all..... The DCT on the Z4 is much smoother and a lot better in my opinion... I feel the M 3 is just wanting to go all the time... Don't get me wrong when you put your foot down you are in license loosing numbers instantly... I have only had the Z4 for a week but I like it a hell of a lot better than the M3

Don't know if you guys remember Nick Murray that guy that had all those problems with his 991 911? Well he ended up getting his money back and bought an M4. He has done a load of vids on the M4, this one he compares his standard car to a car with the map I described above. He's a bit eccentric but his vids give some good info.
