BMW M4 Prices

I had a test drive in a M4 and as very impressed, especially the sound it produces. I am concerned about the depreciation aspect, however it is a strong possibility for when I replace my current zed next year.
I was saying to a salesman that from videos the M4 doesn't sound very good at all but he said like you that to actually drive one it does sound good.

I drove the M3 Lee and I liked the way it sounded but it is a synthesised sound. But it isn't alone in that respect. Nearly every performance car seems to these days.

Evo did an interesting piece on an M4 vs a stock 991

The time was a surprise to me thought the M4 would have eaten the Carrera if you look at standing start times, huge price difference though .

2 year old M4s look like they'll be a lot of car for the money .

That's not bad for a 3-series derivative costing £60k.

I agree but the performance figures would suggest it was closer - if there had been an X-drive I might have gone for one- runs into the hills quickly at this point. The full article stated how well the M4 did considering the price differential . A 997 GTS might have been a fairer comparison.

Yes I agree OG and it does seem to be the way that its done nowadays.

I agree - I can see why a salesman would say they were good - just not quite 1M or a Porsche Boxter Spyder levels.

When I drove the M4 I loved the sound. Even better was the cold start in the showroom. Sounded much better than the zed on start up.

On reflection, and having been stuck in Edinburgh traffic in the zed more times than I'd have liked - I can totally see the point of DCT.

I'd still prefer a proper manual on open road blasts, but for city driving the DCT M4 would be perfect.

Open roads the M4 was a manic beast

There is a manual M4 for sale on Autotrader

Cab versions are getting to £70 something's.....even now in winter

I can't see the point of the cab. Weighs 200kg more than the Coupe, undoing all the weight reduction work they've done and blunting the driving experience in the process.

It's the same as putting a fat person in a lightweight sports car, kinda defies the point....

Er fatness exchanged for al fresco, depends on personal preference, personally the sunroof would be enough windage for me :D

Lots around at £53K now.....

Imagine in 6 months, £40 something.....

Would be interesting to see how the m3 saloon is holding up

My friend bought an M4 as a daily, do it all car. It was a downgrade after divorce saw the back of his DB9 V12 :( . He's had all previous M3's a couple of CSL's and a bread van.

He lasted 2 months with the M4.

He took a massive hit of depreciation and handed it back to the dealer on a sale or return, he just wanted shot of it ASAP. He does have a habit of changing cars very regularly but rarely does he hate them. He absolutely hated the M4. He's now gone for a Cayman GTS (until the Cayman GT4 order books open next year) and using an old 1 series for daily duties.

He said this review summed up the M4 perfectly. I love the first line

I felt similar to that review with the old V8 model in that it was built more for a business manager who wanted a flashy car but didn't really care much for the actual driving bit and it seems they have just followed that mantra but even more so with the new one.

For all the old V8 M3`s faults though at least you could say that it had a nice engine and a competent chassis and it seems the new one has neither so its fairly easy to see why its not done that well in some group tests and some people don't rate it anymore.

I really loved the M4 until a test drive a few week's ago. Not a driver's car in my view. I hate the fake exhaust sounds and I don't just mean the amplified cabin sound, but the excessive popping....it's been manufactured to create 'desirable' sounds....not a raw experience imo. I was like a 'kid at xmas' immediately before driving it, all the promise of BMW going back to a lighter driver focused equation. Complete b*****ks, the car doesn't demand to be driven, it's a status symbol and nothing else.

That's not confirmed yet as far as I was aware? Opinion seems to be split on whether it is a GT4 or just a Cayman R again.
