BMW Dealership Scratched My Zed :(

I had a door seal replaced at the main dealer yesterday. When I picked the car up I had a quick walk around, apart from being covered in seagull poop there was 2 parallel scratches on the rear of the boot lid (3 inches long) a couple of scratches by the drivers side door handle and a 5 inch scratch by the idicator on the wing...

The service dept quickly agreed to polish them out, at first glance they had dissapeared but when the sun came out they were quite visible again - luckily the service guy (who was very good BTW) made a note on the file and said to bring it back at my leisure to have all the scratches remedied...hopefully back to it's usual pristine finish

How do we manage to keep our cars scratch free yet a professional group of mechanics scratch buggery out of our cars? :x

The Dealership, who on the whole is very good was Sytner in Cardiff  - guess I was just unlucky...

I always do a walk around with the service guys before handing over the keys. Like when you rent a car. Any mark on the car is noted.

So far, I have had the rear of the X5 repainted, 1 rear light replaced, a wing of the previous 3 series of my wife's and 2 wheels refurbished.

And this is from different dealers by the way.

At least they are taking responsibility for it :)

Guess they only really care for the engine and bits and think they know where all the car is as :idunno:

Wow they're owning up to it?? Fantastic!! I always hear stories about dealerships mucking up things and NOT paying for it

I had the same problem, but unfortunately didn't notice until a week later when I was washing the car.

I get my partner to drop my car at the dealers, as he works in the city and I don't. Have to grill him on checking for scratches in the future.

It's probably because they hire Valet attendants at minimum wage to move the cars around the shop.

I sound bitter for both you and myself... my stealership managed to nick my front bumper the last time I was in for service. If it weren't for me standing outside when it happened, I probably wouldn't have ever found out. Gladly, they owned up and took care of me like a proper stealership should with the repairs.

Sorry to here this Rick glad they are sorting things for you

They do just that luckily my mate works at the stealers i use so when he had finished work on my car in he kept hold of the key so they could not wash the car.

I also ask them to ring me an hour before the car is ready so that way i can drive her straight out of the workshop

I guess you were lucky the dealer accepted responsibility. I always tell them to note that there are no scratches on the car! This will usually prompt them to inspect it as they are suspicious I'm gonna claim they damaged it! They note any damage on a sheet-which is what they should do anyway
