If this is fed through the speakers, does it still do it if the stereo is turned off?

Hi, i don’t think it’s featured on your 23i? You don’t really need it as your engine sounds good anyway

Its on all the time at the same volume irrespective of whether radio/mm is on or off and doesn't change with radio /mm volume when they are on, in some BMW models with better speakers people could hear the hiss from the ASD through the speakers as soon as they switched the ignistion on..

So is your car an 18/20 or 28i? If it’s not, you don’t have it :?
Rob

No, it's the 2.5L straight six. The reason I posed the question is because Pbondar mentioned the "M series". As there isn't an e89 Z4M I assumed he may have meant the Msport.

What other M Series is there in e89 guise?

I'm very happy if mine does not have it. I like the sound of it inside the car, and would be peeved if it were piped in.

Hi, I’m assuming Pete’s referring to the 4 pot turbo cars and the M reference is for models other than Z4’s.
I could be wrong of course :?
Rob

Was first fitted to the M5 in 2012 and then the M3 and then M2 and now across most BMW petrol cars and some diesels..my wifes 2015 Mini Cooper SD has it.

Hmm interesting, I certainly had my amp fitted post audio signal, so basically where the existing amp was in the chain, but, I never noticed any ASD before it was fitted and certainly do not hear it now, so either, it was never activated on my car or I just cant hear it
The audison forza amp fitted is 85w a channel, so I reckon if it was there I would hear it :D

Hi RustyZ4,

I've had a look at the Prima Forza manual

https://www.audison.eu/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Audison_APF8.9bit_User_Manual_rev1.0c.pdf

and the BMW connector that have may have been used..

https://www.audison.eu/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/APBMW-ReAMP-Owners-manual.pdf

So I'm perplexed/interested..

Who fitted the kit?

How did they cope with the Z4 E89 woofers that do not exist on other BMW fits?

Did they use the BMW adapter harness?

If the answers are pass/pass/yes then the ASD is still on...

Hi Pbondar

Firstly I used Enhance to fit, as Simon who did it, I have known for years,,

We used the BMW harness kit with the Forza when it was fitted,
With regard to the woofers, I take it you mean the footwell ones, there we fitted Audison AP65`s

Chatting to Simon today, I asked him about the ASD, and he said he was well aware of it and checked my car before fitting as it has been an issue with some instals, but, (his words not mine) you do not have it, or at least if you do its not activated/working

RustyZ4 all noted what was the build date of the car or vin number..intrigued as to why yours does not have /or not working...

AFAIK it was fitted to all uk spec 18i 20i 28i ?

Pbondar, my car is 2014, 28i,
Funny enough I went out with a friend of mine last night, who has a 2015, 20i and mentioned it to him, he is saying he doesn't think he has it either,
It sounds like in you car its quite noticeable (before you audio upgrade as well?), so I am thinking if anyone had it they would know or is it quite subtle?
Might be interesting to start a thread to see who has/notices it, as since we have been on this subject I have had my ears glued to the audio to hear something to hint at it,,, and nothing,

If mine does have it and its not working, its one thing I am not going to fix :D

P.S, Had to look up AFAIK on google

I did a bit more testing...lid up, lid down, audio on, audio off with /without ASD...listening internally listening externally on drive by..

So the distillation is...

The ASD generates a highly plausible engine tone that isn’t reflected externally, ie it fools the driver but members of the public hear a muted modern car with a slightly sonorous bass note..

That sonerous bass note isn’t really heard internally when the ASD is off.

For me, without regard to feedback from the speedo, I drive about 10-15 mph faster with no ASD...ie about the same speed as I drive my Volvo XC70..so ASD is a good safety device as it slows me down..

With no ASD the cabin is remarkably quiet and audio when played is much clearer n crisper..

Mine has a better system to make some nice sounds, it's called 6 pots and a Miltek system :driving:

I’m afraid I have to agree...
