Came across this version of what they think it will look like

2015-bmw-z4_600x0w.jpg

BMW dont want to change the Z4 too much, Bonnet will be made a little shorter and it will be sportier, lighter and more agile.

To be honest the above pic aint so bad considering what they done to the 1 series!

Its presumably an artists rendering though so its anyones guess what the final article will look like...

If it is like the above, then old and new shouldn't be too far apart which will help resale figures.

There was talk that the new Z4 would go back to a soft top, can't see from that picture if it will. As long as there is no oil burner in the range :x

i don't see any major differences.. it looks like mine!
I probably wouldn't have bought one if it were a soft top only - The tin top swung it for me.

doesnt look too bad and if they can lose 200kg, im sure it will be a lot quicker and handle a tad better too

This is just a fairly lazy render of the new 3-series style front end treatment with the existing E89 shape and a smoothing off of the rear quarter. I'd be surprised if it is as conservative as this.

Getting rid of the tin-top is a must because as Envy says, the car is at least 200kg too heavy. I can't see them doing it though, because that would mean BMW admitting that re-positioning the car more as a GT than an out-and-out sports car, was a sales failure.

Not sure if BMW have trademarked Z2 or not but if they haven't the attached link suggests there might not be one anytime soon. Although the Z8 and M10 sounds interesting....

Eeek hope it doesn't look like that, not keen on the crease line being horizontal down the side, looks a tad dull now, and hope it doesn't lose the tin top as I wouldn't buy another otherwise. Although I have the Z3s hood is simply a pain to maintain year round so a retractable tin top is much more appealing. Its not that much more in weight than a ragtop anyways.

Tim.

Rear end looks shorter & stubier, as always felt the E89 had a fat @rse compared to the original.

Been tempted to go for a test drive in an E89... know what will happen if i do :-(

Funny isn't it how opinions are so divided on the roof, because the tin-top puts me off on a Roadster. It does add a lot of (unnecessary) weight and it also means you can hardly get anything in the boot with the roof down on the current model. I didn't find maintaining my soft-top an issue at all over the 5-years I had the E85, and the refinement levels inside the cabin are also good summer or winter.

I wouldnt buy it as a Soft top either. I hate the soft top version of cars. I always feel like the have robbed the roof off of it. I like the hard top because the car looks great with it and without it. Plus in terms of security and durability its better. A few soft tops in our area got slashed. Plus I also here after a period of time the soft tops begin to lose shape and leak. I dont know if that improved as time went on though.

I think once you've had your soft top roof slashed, it puts you off getting another one, even if it is covered by the insurance.

Looks like they're changing it like Porsche do - barely any differences...

That is an artist rendering. In other words, an uninformed guess. The actual cars rarely look anything like the renderings.

Rag to riches, sorry, rag top to tin. Had 3 rags and now in the tin, and I must say all 3 rags 2.5 are no way in the same era as my 3.0 tin. I wont let anyone have a go at the old model, but the tin is way better,

It still shocks me opening the boot with it down, and I do need to close and open when getting in the boot shopping, but the boot is very practical, even with the top going down. with both I can get 2 suitcases 20Kg each for my 4 hols a year.

With the rag, I had a hard top and for 6 months never went topless. such a job making sure the rag is not damp when getting the top on and needed 2 people to get it on. Now im topless much more often and have a bit more room in the garage.

Going back to rag is going back to rags, would not put me off but unsure why they would. pitting against the porker is not what its about, I have looked and had one on 24hr test drive and nearly purchased one, but we are not in the same price bracket for like for like.

For me servicing and locality of repair is like half a day off work for the proker, while bmw pick up my bmw from work and drop it back off. boot space what boot space in the porker, its also noisy on a long drive with rear engine pounding you, and the roof is quite hard to drop, massive handle and yuou need to start it off by hand. The wife actually said there is little difference when in it compared to the Z4

so unpractical, noisy, costly service and repair, and need a larger outlay. Looking forward for my 5th z4 will be made next march for me to snap up in Sept.

For note my last one had to have a new roof, the hard top rubbed on the sloth and damaged it, was replace under wty, however took them 3 attempts to sort it, first time not enough time to fit, 2nd time found it was the wrong colour, the last they had it for 2 weeks, the membrane was damaged after they fitted it so yet another one was needed.

Forgot to say my first one had so may rattles it went back about 5 times, still never sorted it, it was like somone with a ball bearing in a metal tube shake behind your left ear every time the top was down, not so much an issue on open roof, but with the hard top down and obviously the soft top down was like torture.

All leaked and had a white residue stains on the inner fabric. I always used autoglum protector atleast 4 times a year, so unsure why. The black always ended up having crease marks after storing under the hard top, looked awful. Needed to use a fluff remover to pull debris from the cloth.

Sorry but the hard top is the way, yes you loose boot space, the removable hard top did look amaizing, especially with the glass rear screen which actually improved the rear view and side view, and the spoiler the rag eventually looks a bit sad looking.

Yep agreed, it's just a photoshop of one of the original press pics, wouldn't bet on it looking anything like that.
