TBH urs doesnt look factory even if it's connected to the back of ur head unit.GJ1 said:
I'm assuming mine is connected to the BT module so there could be a difference in cable voltage. But that white cable of urs looks like a generic ipod connector yo ucan get anywhere. I have some bought from ebay.

so guess as I'm looking to use bt may need one of these similar models. They don't make it easy

It was many years ago but my mate used to use his ipod using it. Just pretty much plug and play. Think you had to select the 3rd audio option on the player i.e. not radio/CD.
I'm pretty sure I may have connected my iPhone to it too but switched to android ages ago too.
I've had the car since 2011 and it was probably in the first year or so that I used it but haven't since.
Quite frustrating now. I know you can get bluetooth fm transmittors but as I have this tucked away in the glovebox I really want to get it working now.
Voltage adapter arrived today so tried plugging this between the ipod cable and bt dongle but unfortunately it didn't solve the problem.
Really bamboozled. Phone pairs to the dongle and stops playing music through the phone speaker once paired, but nothing comes from the car speakers and the stereo screen says 'no magazine'.
I know the ipod cable is connected to the stereo as it gives power to the dongle so isn't a loose connection.
I may have to look at alternatives (bt adapter from ebay) that others have installed but was really hoping for a quick fix without having to remove the headunit or anything. Especially as I got my car phone bluetooth working the other day and already have the ipod cable in place.
If anyone has experienced a similar problem or knows the likely cause I would appreciate their comments. Thanks.

Sorry to hear. I really thought the voltage adapter would solve your issues.
Out of guilt for suggesting you purchase one I can only offer a bit of troubleshooting advice;
In situations like these where I'm not finding a solution I usually break the issue down into its' consituent parts to cancel out component failures.
That said, my next step would be to start testing for redundancy in the system.
Individual steps to try:
1. Do you have any other devices that you can test the current configuration with?
2. Remove the dongle and voltage adapter and test the ipod connector with a 30 pin ios device (ipod/phone/ipad). If that works then it's definitely the android phone/dongle interface.
3. Check the BT settings on your phone and de-select 'use for phone calls' and 'access to contacts' in the dongle device settings. May help.
4. Check your Android version and that the phone is Bluetooth 4.1 or higher and that the dongle is also BT 4.1 or higher compatible.
5. If your existing ipod cable is USB at the head unit try a different USB/30pin cable.
Other than that, I'd be looking for an old ipod to use if the cable actually works.

No problem Chris_D the supplier offers a 30-day money back guarantee so it only cost a few £ for return costs. It was definitely worth trying.
Regarding the troubleshooting. I'm going to get my brother to try his iphone and will definitely try some of the other troubleshooting tips you give.
