Bluemusic adapter keeps cutting off - brainstorm ideas with me please

I bought a high quality bluetooth dongle for AUX.
I unfortunately don't have the capability of skipping songs, or being able to take calls. But the connection is rock solid.

@detch sorry for the thread resurrection. I’m facing the same issues with my Bluemusic dongle(s), the ones that connect to the CD changer cables. What alternative have you used?

I experienced the same issue with the one that connects in the boot so tried the head unit version. Still has the same issue but not as often ( head unit switches to FM). Also interested to hear about alternatives, but don’t have aux input on my head unit.

Oh guys that's a nightmare.

1. What's your key situation? Do you have an original key or aftermarket?
2. What's your battery state? Is it new/fresh?
3. Do you have stock audio?

I switched my AUX back to bluemusic and... the adapter works fine. It's mind boggling, no clue why.
However few things have changed from the initial setup:
1. I changed the battery, mine was in a poor state. Maybe it was doing some things to the system voltage. From what I've read the CD changer is sensitive for that.
2. I upgraded the audio, so now my radio goes through amp. This is interesting, as I remember driving with my friend with the roof down and we tried blasting music but the dongle was disconnecting every song. So maybe somehow there was a power draw or something?
3. I've read that the key likes to interfere somehow. How? No clue. However, you can make an experiment:
Sit inside the car
put the key into the igniton, don't turn it
Turn on the radio by pressing the knob
Bluemusic should connect
Pull out the key.

The CD changer should "disconnect" and the radio should jump to FM.

My theory is - somehow the ignition can "rattle"..?
4. Which makes sense because I switched from 19 inch wheels to 18 inch and now my ride is WAY SMOOTHER.

Hi detch, I think your onto something with the ignition “rattle”. 👍 I recall it only switches to fm over bumpy roads.
I have the two original keys and haven’t noticed a difference between using either one. Battery is in good condition (always on trickle charge when not in use).
Regarding head units, I have swapped out the original head unit which came with the navigation system (no display on head unit) for a business head unit with display. Both head units reacted the same switching to fm occasionally!
I swapped head units as I replaced the original nav system for a Garmin drive smart 66 sat nav with Amazon Alexa, which works really well for selecting music without touching my phone.

I will try your experiment with the ignition key👍

You COULD experiment with the part BMW 61 32 6 901 961
It's easy to replace, relatively cheap, ignition related. MAYBE it will help.

Also - take a very close look at the original loom, maybe some of the pins are corroded or loose. As I said - I have an upgraded setup and most of my cables are cut because I no longer drive the speakers from my head unit. Maybe during the process something was "improved".

I have switched to another Bluemusic dongle. My car came with a Bluemusic phone kit, but I wanted to use a Bluemusic streamer only as I use the OEM phone kit. Using the Bluemusic phone kit age, and also swapped for my other key, seems to have solved it. I don’t know what the key does, but it does seem to help. I need to do your experiment!
