Blacked out rear lights!!

heres a picture of mine tinted

They still look good (if i do say so myself) but not stupidly black that will stop the light & draw attention to yourself from britains finest

I personaly think the tint looks quite factory (not for a z4 obviously, but like 1 series lights that were slightly tinted on the later models)

I love this, probably because im 23 and because I have just bought a set of smoked (mirror finish) rear tail lights, I didnt want to wrap them myself and ordered two new tail lights that the entire plastic case was one whole solid sheet of black plastic with a mirror finish.

I have been assured that these purpose built black tinted tail lights will pass an MOT as they allow light out to display brake lights, indicaators etc, but keep a very dark colour.

So maybe the DIY jobby is great if your on a budget but you run the risk of an MOT failure.

Lovely job though. I hadnt thought about the 3rd brake light, might have to do your version though.

Heres a night shot!!

I used dark smoke light tint.. As ive said previously the pictures make them look darker!!

I personally believe it is more positive towards the younger owners of zeds as im 24 myself!

And you are correct the third brake light is LED so just the other brake lights need upgrading to LEDS

Before the MOT i will strip them off and simply redo them

£7 for the roll and 30 minutes work

Like the look of them, however I am with Mr Wilks on this one. They look illegal as the light coming through is impaired and the reflectors are obscured. An MOT failure on both counts I think :(

Not for me and agree with the illegal reference

If it was me, I would take a chance on the MOT, if it only fails on that, I don't think there would be a charge for retest. Or wait as they MOT and strip it off while you are there???

I havent tinted a rear car light since i was 17.

We're all quite grown up about our mods in general on here so dont take too much offence. Its your car and tastes and all that :)

Some years ago I was following a Fiesta with tinted rear lights on my m/bike......30 MPH limit and we'er both observing the limit....bright summers day with the sun from behind and suddenly this Fiesta stops in the middle of the road for what seems no reason , as I,m deciding to overtake said stationary car it then turns right . With the sun from behind the brake lights and indicators were impossable to see, so I detest tinted rear lights

Nothing wrong with your lights in my opinion.
In case you weren't aware my zed has the same so here is a pic of my naff, low rent, frog like Zed, owned by a 58 year old chav and part time boy racer.

to be fair the lights dont look to bad in the dark from the picture, but its always hard to tell as they always look brighter in a night time shot.

Id just see how you go & if mr plod doesnt like it, just peel it off in front of him. You could even try it in an MOT, you just may need some small reflectors adding

Has anyone informed their insurance company after tinting their rear lights ? Might be worth gauging their reaction.

I think they are a little too dark but i like them.

I want to darken mine slightly... Similar to fat mike.

Doesnt matter what ppl here think as long as you like it

Also the rear light clusters are LED on the facelift.

doesn't look as bad on your car, maybe because of the darker paint?

wheels are lovely though!

58 years old is far too old to be having a mid life crisis, so i can't blame it on that :P

the problem is ,that they are 100% illegal as there is no reflectors , everyone could crash in your rear and it will be your fault and obviously insurance refuse to pay duo to illegal modification .

p.s they look crap too

Well at least ive found out how to make a controversial mod :-)

Hopefully next ones will be more subtle!!
