Afternoon guys!!

Thought i would do a little bit of work on the zed however was planning on doing more but have come down with the flu past few days but was eager to do at least something today so decided on something easy such as blacking the rear lights!!

Lights are all clear however im going to halfrauds to get some LED lights make them a bit brighter just in case!

I think it looks better then the original lights but everyone has their own opinion but once everything ive got planned for the car is done it will look good.. Like i said flu has prevented me from doing more on it for the timebeing!

Looks like a good job, but I actually like the facelift lights as standard....

Tapatalking...

Like the look of them, however I am with Mr Wilks on this one. They look illegal as the light coming through is impaired and the reflectors are obscured. An MOT failure on both counts I think :(

Am I alone in thinking that this is a bizarre modification to make? Your lights are there so that other traffic can see your car, and can tell when you are braking or intending to change direction. ANYTHING that reduces the amount of information provided to other motorists can only be a bad thing, in my opinion.

I very rarely bother to wash my cars, but I always ensure that my lights, windows and mirrors are clean, to maximise the amount of information visible from/through these. Why would you voluntarily reduce that?

(I also think that that the end result actually looks naff and low-rent, but I appreciate that aesthetics are a matter of personal preference).

 these sort of lights belong on chavved up vectra's. sorry, just not keen.

Good points on the light impairment but having checked EVERY light including the brakes.. There is very little difference at all the pictures funnily enough make it look darker!

Having 'Fly Eyed' my previous TT I like the blacked out look. Again everyone has their own opinion. Think it would better on a black car, but I like it.

Fly eye was a mesh so was MOT OK. But didn't give the same look as you have got.

What did you use?

Is there a degree of light that must come through to pass the mot as in tinted windows?

Don't think it's anything specific for the rears think its down to the tester? But might be about to be corrected

I like them, just a little too dark for me, what % is the tint? Is it like windows over 30% and its a failure?

Look a little dark! Did mine about 6 months ago with a light smoke & the light output is not that great. I cant see yours being too good on a very dark road

Also i believe that the lights are leds at the top anyway (correct me if im wrong) but i tried looking at replacing the bulbs & couldnt see any bulbs for it

Not wanting to poop or become my father but here is a section from the latest MOT test directive  just be aware

Lighting

Products on the lens or light source that obviously reduce the light's intensity or change its colour will become a reason for failure – applies to front/rear position lamps, registration plate lamps, stop lamps, rear fog and direction indicators,

Headlight requirements are updated to take account of the particular characteristics of High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps.

HID headlights can cause dazzle if they are dirty or aimed too high so car manufacturers must fit headlamp cleaning and levelling systems. A car will fail if a mandatory headlamp cleaning or levelling system is missing, doesn't work or is obviously defective.

Vehicles fitted with aftermarket HID systems must also be fitted with properly working washer and levelling systems.

If a headlamp bulb is not seated correctly the resulting beam pattern will be indistinct and this will result in a test fail.

Only know as i had the indicators on my 964 blown over in body colour , picked the car up & loved the look , paintspray Pete says " you won't get through next years MOT with it though " :(
car now sold so no longer an issue http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q576/beaucostil/964inside005_zpsa7d99aa6.jpg

Great job! Echoing the general response here though with saying its a little too dark for my taste.

Aside from MOT passing, I believe that the traffic police (our good friends) are cracking down on such things too.
