Im not sure what you think you are saying, or why. :?z4pilot said:Ewazix said:I don't like the idea of welded cracked wheels, I know Frigg all about welding but I'll express an expert opinion anyway - a lot of places won't even touch most work if this type as the welds are either ugly, leaky or break up again. None of which is good. Unfortunately the weld process weakens the alloy unless a lot of expert care is taken and its an appropriate area of damage.
Fixed that for you....
Far too often people spout advice giving the impression they (personally) are qualified on a topic, I made it crystal clear I'm not, but that according to people who actually know about welding cast or forged aluminium alloy metals its a very unreliable process requiring knowledge of the exact material spec used as the inclusions and impurities are what cause the issues. Its less forgiving than welding steel.
The basis for my self confessed meager knowledge is that, in a previous career I was responsible for monitoring test and compliance certification of various components used in nuclear power stations, including materials integrity, and fixings, including welding. Hence why I'd happily risk a welded head, but not a wheel.
BTW If you feel the urge to 'fix' my posts with smart arsed eye rolls, please read what I've written and assume I'm actually trying to be helpful, and ACCURATE before bothering. Cheers 8)
