Bhp

Buy a 2.5 or 3L...?

Seriously, short of forced induction, you can't do much - Jonny Essex had a remap which gave a 'claimed' 20hp increase but people have reacted to this with a bit of incredulity....

If you're after more 'go' during normal driving, it might be possible to change your rear diff to a higher ratio, this should give you better acceleration (but a lower top speed). However it would mean that, compared to now, at any given speed (in the same gear), you'd be using more revs (and more fuel). On the plus side, if the diff ratio is carefully selected, it may mean that you're spending more time driving near peak torque production which will make the car feel more responsive

There's not much that you can really do to get that much BHP, which isnt cheaper than swapping to a larger engine.

Things to look at, if you're willing to spend the money are:

K&N Air Filter (£60)
ECU remap (£375)
Sport Exhaust (£800)
RPI Air Scoop (£116)

MStyle can give you a +13bhp upgrade, for £415.

The problem is, you've got the 4 cylinder, base-engine model, so there's really not much available that will give you any reasonable performance upgrades.
There's loads for the 6 cylinder blocks, and the cost associated with bringing the 2.0 up to the power of the 2.5 is going to be more than just upgrading to a 2.5.

(Basically, the parts above, which may get you around 20bhp increase, is going to cost you around £1400.....

Didn't think there was a forced induction option on the market for the 2.0?
ESS certainly don't touch it.

I was in exactly the same boat with my 2.0i, ended up just buying a 2.5si - with selling my old one and buying the new it only cost me £300!

Best thing you'll ever do!!

Sorry, perhaps I was being a little flippant - I just meant that there's no 'simple' way to get the increases the OP was after, it would need some sort of FI setup. As to FI on a 2L, that's left as an exercise for the reader...

Is it a big step up to the 2.5?

25 to 39bhp more depending on which 2.5 you get (the facelift is slower at 175bhp, the pre-facelift is 189bhp).
The 2.0l is 150bhp.

Major advantage is it's a 6 cylinder, which opens you up to most of the upgrades and performance parts you'll find for the z4

S'all good.
Mine was a serious question, as I had assumed there wasn't any, but was interested to learn if I was mistaken

Get the 2.5si and it's noticeable, thats about 215bhp...

yes.. missed that.. the 2.5si is indeed 215bhp.. best choice of the 2.5s ;)

65bhp upgrade right there!

good call z4lincs!

Thanks. Going to enjoy this car for the summer and poss look at upgrading next winter. I love the car so I think my next move will be for a 2.5 or 3.

If you want more 'go' then part ex up to a 3.0 litre - it is a very different ownership experience but you'll find you can drive it about quite sedately with the 'sports' button left off. Plenty of performance when you want it (with increased fuel consumption). You'll love the extra performance after you've owned the 2.0 litre and got used to the handling.

As others have said - I wouldn't mess about investing in creating more performance with your 2 litre just go straight for the six cylinder (but be careful which version as bhp figures do vary as mentioned previously).

:driving:

Have a word with Jonny E.

He's queried this before (zillions of times).

And we have established - zillions of times - that the 2.0 4-pot cannot be upgraded with forced induction. IIRC the smallest engine I've seen on here with FI is a 2.2 - chap in Sweden or Denmark ?

Haven't you realised yet that JE will keep asking the same question, over and over and over, until someone gives him the answer he wants to hear....

Awww, that's not fair...

I'm sure he changes the same question ever so slightly each time, but not enough for it to be an actual new question......

:poke: :poke:

Sorry JE... :P

the answer is get a 3.0, loads of Torgue and pulls very hard, and sounds lovely, Would not want any other engine execpt the 3.2, I could not imagine the z with a 4-pot, the six's make the car.
