Better check yours is working!

Hi all, just a heads up in case you have the same problem as me, but just didn't realise yet, as it's not the sort of thing you check.

I was messing about cleaning the car as usual, and remembered that inside the fuel filler flap was a bit grubby, so got in there to clean it, and on opening the flap, I noticed the door lock button was down, i.e. car locked! Yup, solenoid dud. £45 for a replacement (Cooper). I haven't checked MOF yet, but I bet it's the water gremlin (no pun intended) again (just did roof motor last year :-o).

With the price of fuel these days, can't be too careful, although almost a tankful on such a small item is painful.

Cheers guys-its nice to know im 'famous' for something on here

OK, got the part, and confirmed the original is dud, BUT, original is shorter than replacement part by approx 12mm, so not sure if fuel flap has been forced open at some time past. Will post a how to with pics soon , in case anyone else has the same problem.

i broke mine on one of my first fill ups, i had accidentally locked my car when getting out to pump and didn't know there was even a lock on it... it was winter so i thought it was frozen shut, broke it open.

not sure if i will bother replacing it though.
