Best trickle charger.

Any recommendations for the best trickle charger?

Ctec have a good reputation but the Lidl/Aldi offerings offer similar performance for a vastly reduced price.

I bought this one and its good value and does everything I want - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Smart-Intelligent-Car-Battery-Charger-Automatic-Pulse-Repair-Starter-12V-24V-UK/313228092617?hash=item48edd964c9:g:UKcAAOSw-bJfaZaH

Ctek mxs 5.0, charges, maintaines and reconditions. Currently running 2, about to buy one more.

CTEK ftw.
The CTEK copies will have similar functionality but the firmware code and implementation of that functionality will be different, possibly in a detrimental way.
I'd be interested to see an in-depth product comparison review if anyone knows of any?

Ctek ftw.

Set and forget, but don't forget to unplug it.

Ditto. Looked at the Ctek ones but went for the more realistically priced one that does what I need.

yep, same here, maintains and reconditions as a ctek at a much more sensible cost.

I have the Aldi equivalent and it has performed admirably. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

How are you planning to use it exactly? If the car is in storage where you will not be checking it for a couple of weeks or more then the Aldi / Lidl chargers are not the way to go.

The only thing I don’t like about the ctek ones are the flat button switches which have a habit of failing over time making it difficult to switch modes.

Are there any good ones with better buttons ?

+1 I've run various Ctek including a MXS 5.0 for several years. The benefit over some rivals is that the recondition function really works (my original Z4 battery lasted 15years including winter SORN periods!) and they automatically re-start if your mains power cuts

Had Aldi one for 5 years and it did the job (think they are about £12), only changed as I noticed the cables were wearing exposing the core. Got a Ctek one now with the extension cable (means I can keep an eye on the charging from the front of the garage instead of the back - car parked nose first), also the Ctek has a button for AGM batteries (suits my E89)

So it seems then that the only 'potential' issue with the cheaper ones is that they may not restart after a power outage?
If the car is at home and you know there's been a power cut then it's an easy task to reset. If the car is away from you then you'd either need a CTek or regular checks.
