Best discs and callipers

the ones with slots and holes are a waste of money, unless you are tracking the thing. These guys are perfect for being rust free and will be the ones i get for my e85 end of this year or next spring:

Hi all
I posted a question about a week ago about swapping out the discs on my 35i
I and a few Essex zeds spent a good few days looking for options. Didn’t find a lot hence the post .
I ended up going for the tarox f 2000 option, I don’t intend to track the car it’s purely for eye candy.
They are in order ATM . Had I known about the option above I may have been tempted just because of the price difference. I don’t have them yet but will post a picture once they are fitted 👍F59B5075-0115-4EB2-9994-511A21DC51C4.png

I went with zimmerman drilled and vented rear discs..big OE supplier..155 euro plus VAT for a pair dirfect from zimmerman's shop..

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/zimmermann/7624658

Autodoc have them at a higher price..

Better with grooves as they catch any grit and reduce scoring. Been happy with the ones i fitted, half the wear of the stock discs and less dust with green stuff pads.

Not necessarily. The grooves collect brake dust, so when full can reduce braking efficiency as it's pad-on-pad. There are also good arguments against drilled, as they can cause scoring of the pads over time which again reduces braking efficiency.

All nonsense IMHO unless you are in a competitive racing team!

I have seen someone on here have M2 / M140i (blue style) callipers in a photo…

They bring the car up to date, and BMW would have likely put these on the Z4 had it been released at a similar time.

Would be good to see what would be needed to do that modification.

I have seen spares on ebay, not much change from £1000 but it looks amazing.

I've got these on my 440i. They look nice but squeak like a bastid and don't stop any better than the Z4 TBH. And cost a hell of a lot more to change.

You can go with the £1,200 6 pot brembo kit instead…

Can only go by my own experience of that type of disc. They have done no harm and improved disc life and look good.
Certainly the original discs were worn out and badly scored at 45k. Replaced and now 95k with about 0.5 mm wear.

I’ve used mtec drilled and groved

I've just had MTECH drilled and grooved fitted. Have EBC Redstuff pads at the back, and a set of (temporary) Mintex pads at the front until the Redstuffs arrive (been out of stock for some time, EBC having issues with production at the moment. I imagine making pads is difficult when WFH).

I'd say the brake feel is significantly improved from what I had before, which was Pagid discs and pads all round. Hopefully that will be better still with the Redstuffs at the front when they arrive.

I also took the opportunity to replace the brake hoses (lines are fine). I doubt this will make any difference, except the rubber hoses were starting to perish (car on 106k).

As for why I chose drilled and grooved: same reason I bought the car, because it looks cool (to me)!
