BBC Top Gear India Special - 28th Dec.

I watched this last night and was fairly disappointed. :(

Granted, it was a Christmas Special - but the one they did in Vietnam was awesome and this one just didn't compare. I don't think it was the country, as India is absolutely massive and so varied that they could've easily kept the format of a lads adventure/road trip (sort of mucking around with your mates, on the road, in a fantastic travel destination) rather than the subtext of being UK Trade Ambassadors - the whole thing with the garden party fell pretty flat on it's face. However, the scenery in the Himalayas was stunning and I would love to drive those winding roads...

Why did they ruin those cars for 'comedy' value? I'd have been far more interested to see them kept standard and have the challenge of dealing with that terrain - I reckon they'd have coped quite well on all but the roughest terrain (they didn't exactly go off-road, apart from the incline where the Rolls got stuck) rendering those 'mods' completely redundant.
 
Its more about 3 middle aged men making fools of themselves. Which is entertaining, but its changed it was good when they were bothered.. the one where they took the 4x4s through Bolivia was fantastic. This one was just lame, nothing of real interest.

We watched TG USA and thought it started off poorly, but the more recent episodes got much better - the most recent one with the pickups in Alaska was actually great viewing IMO and easily better than the majority of UK TG episodes.

Yet to watch the India special from last night but I know what to expect...

watched the first TG USA and it just reminded me of a really boring documentary (and I like documentaries lol)..all I can say is 'americans'. Was bored and never watched anymore, maybe should give them another chance then.
 
Definitely lost it's magic.

don't know whether the problem is with the editing, script, or direction, but when you compare to classic episodes like Bolivian special, USA special, the races across Europe etc, there was some real suspense/ excitement/interest from the guys themselves and that came through and made it compelling. Now it just seems like they are going through the motions.

I know it's heavily staged but it didn't used to seem so obvious. In recent episodes when you look at their faces you can sense someone has just shouted "action" and soon will be shouting "cut"

They seem bored
 
Watched 45 mins, all so predictable Hammond screeching to a halt outside the station and doing a U turn oh my I didn't expect the cans to fall off yeah yeah. Then captain slow getting lost mmmmm where have we seen that before :thumbsdown:
 
All things must come to an end sometime I suppose. TV greats like the X-Files, Spooks and Grange Hill have all finished up so maybe it's time for Top Gear.

Not necessarily end, but evolve into a fresh format with new faces... though it would need Clarkson to see this to let it happen. Considering he resurrected it from the dead, he has considerable clout so would need an equally strong editor to remove the cringe & put him back in his box when necessary, but equally recognise when the moments of genius occur.

Always respected the few who are left who have the balls to continually challenge the politically correct in e public arena, the example of 'Berlin to Warsaw in one Tank' when advertising a VW always comes to mind, so will b a sad day in part when they're put out to grass.

Managed to watch about half an hour and turned it off, just like flogging a dead horse, terrible.
 
Well it seemed to cause a stir with some of the PC nutters with no life, playing the race card on Clarkson again :roll:
 
Funny enough to watch with some good moments, but the over done format is now just too predictable, made up and clearly studio scripted.

It's going to have to change or just slowly die a death from 3 presenters that seem to have lost their enthusiasm for these 'trips'.
 
Sat through it with the missus, she's a TG fan, but we both thought it was a poor effort. Not so much predictable, more like 'exactly the same' as previous episodes - race a train, modify the cars to A Team music, etc.

I agree with other comments about the 3 of them looking bored. I recall reading in TG magazine last year I think (missus bought it when I was ill, not something I'd buy for myself), Clarkson was saying that the format of the mag was changing and he wished the TV producers would have the b@lls to change the TV show, but that they didn't.

When the Himalayas came into view for one moment I thought they were going to take a car to Everest base camp. When they're good they are really great, I loved the Aston V12 series ending from a couple of years ago, really dramatic and emotional. Other favourites are the North Pole special, Reliant Robin rocket, Veyron vs. Eurofighter, etc. Fingers crossed for the new series, but ain't holding my breath..
 
We'd Sky+ it, just tried to watch it and gave up after falling asleep watching it and then deleted it without seeing the end of it.
Very poor attempt by the boys or at the very least the producers.
New ideas please Top Gear.
 
I thought it was a poor attempt this year. The only highlight was watching the front end being pulled off Hammond's mini while he was oblivious and giving instructions to keep pulling..... I should say that I wasn't in favour of seeing the poor mini being abused, I thought it was a lovely example.
